As a Principal Insights Analyst on League of Legends, you’ll join the Insights discipline – the group of researchers, analysts, data scientists, and strategists responsible for solving problems and executing analyses that enable Rioters to make difficult decisions with confidence. You’ll be tasked with tackling problems that affect League today and where it’s headed in the future, advising senior leaders on key decisions. Your background in data analysis, research, and strategic decision-making will ensure that you’re an effective advocate for players and can provide mentorship to grow those around you.
This role focuses on answering some of our hardest questions on League as well as playing an integral part in mentoring and growing the next generation of analysts through your craft expertise. We strive to understand League as a full ecosystem, joining game, publishing, and Esports learnings into one holistic product perspective. Finally, you’ll be partnered with people across different work functions, so relationship management is a key part of your craft.
Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end Insights projects on League of Legends, helping solve ambiguous, high-impact product and business problems
- Design and execute multi-modal studies, integrating analytics and research to guide strategic decisions across League’s broader ecosystem — including the game, publishing, and esports
- Apply machine learning and statistical modeling techniques to uncover insights in player behavior, forecast product performance, and support ecosystem-level strategies
- Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to design and maintain ETL processes and data structures that ensure data quality, scalability, and accessibility for downstream insights
- Communicate data-driven narratives and recommendations to diverse audiences, including product teams and League leadership, to drive understanding and action
- Model and mentor best practices in analytics craft, supporting the growth of fellow analysts and elevating overall analytical quality across the team
- Proactively identify player and business opportunities through deep analytical and strategic thinking
- Partner closely with League game leadership team and senior stakeholders to shape product direction and strategies
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related field
- 9+ years of experience in analytics, data science, business intelligence, consulting, or related roles involving complex quantitative analysis
- Strong experience identifying and breaking down complex problems and problem spaces using various business or product frameworks and crafting optimal solutions for our players and our business
- Proficiency with SQL, Python, Databricks, Tableau or similar data management and visualization tools
- Experience developing, validating, and interpreting machine learning models (e.g., clustering, classification, regression) to answer strategic product questions
- Proven ability to lead and deliver across functional workstreams in collaboration with designers, product managers, and engineers
- Strong communication and presentation skills with senior stakeholders
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong familiarity with League of Legends as a player
- Experience working on live service games, especially within insights or data functions
- Experience with developing and maintaining scalable data warehouse schemas and architecture to support analytical reporting needs
- Advanced degree (MS, PhD, MBA) in a relevant field (e.g., Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Behavioral Sciences)
