The Opportunity:

 

We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join the Strategic Change Service within the Corporate Services Group. The successful candidate will be joining us at a critical time in our development and at the start of a new portfolio of strategic change.  We are seeking someone who is experienced in engaging with senior stakeholders across an organisation and is able to identify the right people in a complex environment to progress required action.  We need you to have the experience to ensure projects deliver quality but also to help us shape and continually improve how our team works.

 

As a Senior Data Analyst you will be you will be aligned to support Project deliverables that have a specific focus on utilising multiple master and auxiliary data sets. The Senior Data Analyst will be essential in ensuring that complex and sensitive data challenges are understood, solutions are defined and delivered.  You will also ensure that senior stakeholder expectations regarding data analysis activities are understood and managed.  The successful candidate will bring excellent experience in complex data analysis in direct support of project and portfolio deliverables and governance.  We need you to be good at sourcing and modelling data, and addressing data quality issues to support timely and informed decision making and meet reporting needs.  You will be both a project team member and required to own and progress your assigned project deliverables independently, with a focus on truly understanding the business outcomes that we aim to achieve.

 

The data analysis capability is new to the Strategic Change Service, so this role will be key in developing our ways of working and framework.  It will be essential to work with the data professionals in other teams across the university, including our Data Architecture team. The Senior Data Analyst will also matrix-manage and provide guidance to our other data analysts who will be working on different projects within our portfolio. Experience of working in a complex organisation will be advantageous.

The role holder will line managed by the Head of Business Analysis and will play a significant part in the delivery of a high-quality Analysis services to the Strategic Change Service Team and our broader University network of stakeholders who support the delivery of portfolio.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week).  This role is hybrid but it is expected that this role requires 2 – 3 days per week in varying offices across our campus.

 

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Significant evidenced practical experience of successful data analysis coordination and delivery within a programme utilising a robust approach 
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Qlik 
  • Advanced knowledge of a range of tools such as SQL, Python or R, for the purposes of data analysis on large datasets and relational databases.  
  • Demonstrable experience of analysing complex issues and data modelling options to inform decision making.
  • Understanding of data protection principles and how these impact on data access and reporting arrangements.  
  • Experience in working with non-specialist colleagues to specify and scope data-related projects and identify pathways to effective delivery. 
  • Collating information and data, preparing reports, presenting to leaders and facilitating workshops 
  • The ability to work with minimum supervision, accurately and consistently to high standards
