Job Description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Associate Director for CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Data Analytics & Technology performs critical job functions related to the management of Slate, the Client Relationship Management software used by Montclair State University, Workday Student, and all other data analytic, predictive modeling and AI systems used by Undergraduate Admissions. In coordination with the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Associate Director develops and executes a strategic vision for optimizing and leveraging the data and technology available to support enrollment goals. The Associate Director stays current on data, analytics and artificial intelligence trends as they relate to educational technology and makes recommendations for new technology adoption. The Associate Director uses technical expertise to advise on data-driven changes to policies, procedures, and recruitment strategy. The Associate Director engages colleagues within the office and across campus to ensure that Slate and other admissions analytics are being used to their fullest functionality in support of enrollment goals. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the Assistant Director for CRM Data and Technology.

  • Serve as the lead system administrator for Slate; enforce data entry standards and audit existing data; manage security architecture, user-defined fields, and coding structure; maintain portals, queries, reports, automations, applications, forms, rules, and implement new functionality as it becomes available.

  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of Slate, engaging best practices to maintain system performance and optimization.

  • Manage cycle preparation activities, soliciting feedback from internal and external partners.

  • Train staff members on CRM system functionality, advise on best practices and troubleshoot issues.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of bidirectional integrations between Slate and other systems (Banner, Workday Student, third-party vendors), working closely with Information Technology, Financial Aid and other campus partners to do so.

  • Develop and maintain meaningful, user-friendly reports, dashboards and query library for Undergraduate Admissions staff members.

  • Advocate for data-driven decision making by performing regular analysis of admissions operations and helping define strategy; identify opportunities for optimizations, automations and efficiencies.

  • Extract data and create reports for internal stakeholders.

  • Identify, evaluate and implement new technologies to support enrollment needs of the University.

  • Serve as primary technical liaison for Undergraduate Admissions to third party vendors (i.e. Technolutions, lead generation/marketing vendors, analytics firms, AI partners).

  • Collaborate with internal departments across multiple divisions to identify, investigate, and resolve data quality and integration issues. Audit enrollment data to ensure all data flowing into reporting systems meet data integrity requirements.

  • Discuss business needs with a wide range of stakeholders, translate them into technical requirements, evaluate feasibility, and advocate for the best solutions.

  • Respond to ad hoc requests for data or data analysis from campus partners.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of four years of direct technical experience using Slate CRM for a complex organization.

  • Demonstrated ability working with relational databases, and interpreting, analyzing and reporting data.

  • Experience managing admissions applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in a technical environment.

  • Experience implementing new technologies or systems.

  • Advanced user experience with Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to manage change and engage with constituents across campus.

  • Availability on selected nights and weekends throughout the year to participate in admissions recruitment events.

  • A valid driver’s license and full-time access to reliable transportation.

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or other formal professional training related to computer science, data science, information technology, or a related field.

  • Three to five years of direct technical experience managing Slate.

  • Direct experience with Workday Student and Banner.

  • Experience implementing and leveraging AI technologies.

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

  • Experience training non-technical staff and creating job aides and business process workflows.

  • Fluency in a language other than English.

  • Knowledge of SQL.

Salary Range

$102,668.22-$111,226.90 Annually
