STRS Ohio is seeking a Quantitative Analyst I or II, Equities or a Senior Quantitative Analyst, Equities to join the Investment/Equity team.  Nearly two-thirds of STRS Ohio’s investment assets are managed internally by more than 100 Investment Department professionals.

General Summary (Grades I1A-Public, I2A-Public & I3A-Public):

Under the direction of the portfolio manager, Equities Quantitative Products, develop, maintain and manage quantitative data; perform quantitative research, and assist with management of quantitative portfolios, supporting the Domestic Equity team.

Summary of Responsibilities (Grades I1A-Public, I2A-Public & I3A-Public:

  • Perform quantitative research, including traditional and Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning (AI/ML) techniques. Improve quantitative processes with a goal of meeting the long-term performance objectives of the total fund. (Grades I1A-Public & I2A-Pubic)

  • Perform quantitative research, including traditional and Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning (AI/ML) techniques. Improve quantitative processes and perform back testing to assess viability of the new quantitative methods. Operate with a goal of meeting the long-term performance objectives of the total fund. (Grade I3A-Public)

  • Maintain and improve daily processes generating factor data, quantitative models, risk models, portfolio and benchmark positions.

  • Create new quantitative data used in research and management of equity investments.

  • Monitor daily market events to analyze the impact on quantitative and passive portfolios; use the information to make actionable portfolio recommendations.

  • Analyze risk metrics and risk reporting for all domestic equity portfolios.

  • Provide quantitative support to all fundamental equity portfolio managers on ad hoc research projects.

Summary of Qualifications (Grades I1A-Public, I2A-Public & I3A-Public:

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in business administration, economics, statistics, finance, applied mathematics or a quantitative oriented field required.

  • Master's degree with an emphasis in business administration, economics, statistics, finance, applied mathematics or quantitatively oriented field preferred.

  • One to two years’ experience in quantitative investment research preferred. (Grade I1A-Public)

  • Two to five years’ experience in quantitative investment research strongly recommended. (Grade I2A-Public)

  • Five to ten years’ experience in quantitative investment research strongly recommended. (Grade I3A-Public)

  • Successful completion of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level I recommended. (Grade I1A-Public)

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred. (Grade I2A-Public & Grade I3A-Public)

  • Ability to conduct research, analyze trends, and make recommendations to other members of the equities team required. 

  • General knowledge and experience with software development techniques and programming in relevant statistical/analytical software such as Python, R or SAS required. General knowledge and experience with databases, SQL Server strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of data science techniques, including AI/ML, is strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to work with and preserve confidential information required.
