What you will be doing:

Umicore is developing a modern data platform with the objective of maximizing business insight and utilizing data for added value digital initiatives at Umicore Group and Business Unit level.

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our team. The preferred candidate will possess experience with Azure Databricks, Data Factory, Data Lake, and dbt, and ideally have an initial familiarity with Data Mesh concepts.

As a Data Engineer in the Data Solutions Center of Excellence, you will analyze requirements, design data models, build and maintain data pipelines, and develop analytical models.

You will grow advanced technical expertise with the Umicore standard toolset, including Power BI, TimeXtender and other Azure technologies, such as Data Factory and Databricks.

Your detailed responsibilities:

Your role in projects:

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for data ingestion, processing, and transformation in Azure Data Factory, Databricks and / or dbt.
• Create and maintain data storage solutions including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Blob Storage.
• Create and maintain Source Data Products and Analytical Data Products, according to Data Mesh concepts
• Work in close collaboration with the project manager, the business product owner and the business analyst in the definition of the best conceptual data model
• Define test scenario and perform unit and integration testing
• In some cases, act also as project manager and / or BI analyst

Your role in going concerns:

• Maintain and administer global and local aspects of ETL solutions (Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, DBT)
• Provide first level and second level support. Coordinate third level support with solution supplier
• Support the business needs in a timely and efficient manner demonstrating a sense of urgency, tenacity and commitment to quality and excellence
• Manage incoming demands on enhancements of existing applications: analyze requests, organize functional analysis, estimate and plan developments
• Participate in the Data Engineer circle and share best practices
• Care for continuous optimization of ETL scheduling

Who we are looking for:

• Master’s degree in information technology sciences, mathematics or economy, with a first successful experience in the data analytics domain
• Experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake and dbt
• Experience with data mesh and data product thinking
• You have excellent analytical design skills and strong knowledge about dimensional modeling
• You have a mature, assertive and dynamic personality, with excellent interpersonal skills
• You are a team player with strong communication skills and with a collaborative spirit
• You are customer oriented, result driven & focused on delivering quality
• You are organized and planning your work considering business priorities
• Interest in and exposure to industrial activities, processes and technology
• You are fluent in English
