Research Data Manager

Mission

Drive the development of intuitive, secure, and scalable front-end systems that bridge complex industrial data streams with actionable insights. Collaborate with IT and data teams to create user-friendly digital interfaces and architect cloud-based solutions that connect asset condition data (e.g. scan of equipment – wear measurement before/ after) with 3D scan analytics for predictive maintenance and measurable value to industrial customers. 

This newly created role is key to internalizing capabilities currently outsourced to suppliers.

1. Front-End Development & Interface Design

• Build and deploy front-end interfaces that turn industrial data into actionable insights.
• Develop custom visualizations and workflows using proprietary vendor platforms.
• Design front-end solutions compatible with ERPs and MES.
• Lead the transition from outsourced interfaces to fully internalized solutions.
   

2. Collaboration & Technical Integration

• Collaborate daily with internal IT developers to integrate back-end pipelines and tools.
• Collaborate with the technical team to define optimum solutions and provide data technical support as requested.
• Write clear, structured terms of reference (ToR) for any new digital tool or feature.

3. Data Management, Architecture & Analytics

• Design and maintain architecture diagrams, system flows, and data security layers.
• Handle 3D scan data (e.g., ladle wear, kiln geometry) and link it to asset condition tracking.
• Work on connecting laser data, volumetric calculations, and scan analytics to forecasting tools.
• Support data architecture design and participate in machine learning-driven wear prediction.

Technical Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of experience in front-end development, ideally in industrial or engineering environments.
• Proficiency with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or Angular).
• Strong understanding of UI/UX, especially for technical and data-driven applications.
• Fluent with cloud platform integration (Oracle, Azure, AWS) and data security principles.
• Demonstrated ability to work with 3D scanning tools, scan data processing, and 3D interfaces.
  (3D Scanning & Processing: Faro, BuildIT; Visualization & Monitoring: HUVR, Power BI, Oracle Cloud; Programming/Development: JavaScript/TypeScript, Python (optional), REST APIs)
• Experience writing terms of reference for technical tools or systems.
• Working knowledge of data architecture, business intelligence, and machine learning concepts.
• Data analysis and report writing in English.

Education & Domain Knowledge

• Master’s degree preferred (IT or Computer Science background with experience in cloud systems).
• Familiarity with refractory applications (e.g., ladle wear, kiln maintenance, volumetric tracking) is a plus.
• Excellent collaboration skills to work across Innovation & Technology, IT, and operations.
