Role Purpose:

The Data Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Lonza R&D data infrastructure. They will work closely with R&D Research Groups to define their data requirements, and implement data engineering projects. They will manage relationships to internal stakeholders, customers and suppliers.

Key Accountabilities and Duties:

  • Implements and maintains Lonza R&D data infrastructure.
  • Defines R&D Research Group data requirements and implements data engineering projects.
  • Develops of metadata standards in R&D, including the use controlled vocabularies and ontologies.
  • Develops & implements scalable ETL pipelines
  • Collaborates closely with R&D lab scientists, bioinformaticians & modelers

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong programming skills in a common language (e.g. Python, Java, Go, Ruby, ...)
  • Cloud computing experience, including IaaS and PaaS on a common platform (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP
  • Experience setting up and maintaining data infrastructure, including database querying and design (SQL)

Education

  • Degree (required) *BSc Field of Study Data science, computer science, other quantitative subject
  • Degree (preferred)MSc Field of Study Data science, computer science, other quantitative subject
