About Investments
The Senior Data and Business Intelligence Engineer role supports our Investments function.Ā RenaissanceReās Investments team manages our $30 billion+ investment portfolio, allocating our assets, either directly or through investment managers, to deliver alpha against our strategic benchmark. We invest in a diverse range of assets from treasuries and corporate bonds to equities and private credit to provide capital and liquidity for underwriting risk and paying claims. Our investment portfolio is one of RenaissanceReās āThree Drivers of Profitā, along with underwriting income and fees, providing ~$1.2 billion in net investment income to benefit our shareholders and joint venture partners.Ā
About the Position
Reporting directly to the VP, Systems Strategy & Architecture, for Investments, the Senior Data & Business Intelligence Engineer will lead key initiatives, leveraging cutting edge cloud and integration technologies to enable data-driven decision making. The team comprises engineers from various disciplines including software engineering, data and BI engineering, process automation, quality assurance amongst others. As a Senior Data and BI Engineer, you will contribute to and manage the teamās efforts to move away from legacy analytical solutions to modern, cloud native data platform solutions, including Dremio, to unlock newer analytical capabilities and insights for the business. Engineers in the team have varying levels of skills and experience.Ā This is both a hands-on role and expected to demonstrate technical leadership working alongside and training junior engineers.Ā

The Senior Data and BI Engineer role is based in the Dublin office, collocated with the majority of the IT and Investments teams.Ā Occasional travel may be required to other RenaissanceRe offices, including Bermuda, London, and New York.
Key Relationships
Reports to: Ā VP, Systems Strategy & Architecture, Investments
Key Stakeholders & Partners:Ā Investment Operations; Core Investments team, including Managing Directors, CIO, and Head of Quantitative Investments
Key Partners:Ā IT Portfolio Managers and other senior Engineers; Enablement Teams, such as Data Office and Platform Strategy
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop BI solutions, automated tests, documentation, and related processes to meet and exceed the requirements of Investments team and stakeholders
Lead the technical design efforts for BI subcomponents to achieve and implement fit-for-purpose solutions
Work closely with Investments team and partners to ensure implementation, testing, and improvement of solutions across various project phases
Scope development efforts for specific tasks and contribute relevant workstream input to broader estimates covering holistic technical solutions under development
Prepare artefacts, analysis reports, and solution designs that comply with business prerequisites
Define, refine, meet or exceed quality, reliability, resilience, scalability, and stability project goals Ā
Develop proficient knowledge of internal systems for operational support
Mentor and coach junior squad members in the technical and business domains; actively work to advance the technical and design skills of the squad
Communicate and engage with the processes adopted by the squad
Embrace the RenaissanceRe culture and demonstrate it in daily activities
Candidate Qualifications:
At least 7+ years of relevant experience and proven track record working with technical teams in a financial services context using a similar technology stack, including:
Hands-on BI work experience in an Agile environment
4+ years of experience in building reports based on Tableau/PowerBI utilizing Dremio or any other data lake engines
Proven design ability with a detailed understanding of industry standards and norms across BI, including but not limited to data & dimensional modelling; experience with large-scale solution design and architecture preferred
Experience with one of the Change Management tools or platforms, e.g. JIRA or ServiceNow
Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure preferred
Experience mentoring or managing junior engineers through the development lifecycle preferred
Experience and understanding of IT challenges, opportunities, and applications in a Financial Services context, including data governance and compliance standards; specific Investments or Asset Management experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated learning agility and facility adopting new technologies and systems
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
Ability to estimate and clearly articulate development effort required for specific tasks in sprint ceremonies
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience
