Our Senior Developer Advocates are technical leaders and mentors that anchor our team. They own projects from beginning to end, facilitating collaboration and enabling Datadog's community to solve real-world problems. With a focus on Generative AI (GenAI), this role will enable our community of engineers to build better, more observable, and more reliable AI-powered systems. This is a unique opportunity to use both your engineering expertise and advocacy skills to shape the ever-evolving technological landscape.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • Act as a subject matter expert for GenAI on behalf of the Datadog advocacy and engineering teams.
  • Create technical content by building demos, public speaking, blogging, and creating documentation and webinars to build Datadog’s reputation as a leader in the space.
  • Partner with and coach internal product and customer engineering teams on effective public communication and presentations for the work they do
  • Contribute to the product through deep feedback, including bug reporting, identifying usability challenges, and suggesting product enhancements.
  • Identify customer pain points and gaps in the GenAI space and communicate these internally to advocate for new features, integrations, and fixes.
  • Explore new problem areas to deliver prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and open-source contributions that benefit the community.
  • Build awareness of Datadog as a technical leader within the GenAI communities you engage.

Who You Are:

We are looking for a trusted expert with specialization in at least one of the following domains. You are not expected to be an expert in all of these areas, but rather bring a depth of knowledge in one or more:

  • Generative AI: You have deep knowledge of the current landscape, including Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, AI agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and vector databases.
  • AI Infrastructure: You have deep experience with the underlying hardware and software for AI, including GPU/TPU management, distributed training frameworks (e.g., Ray, PyTorch FSDP), and high-performance networking.
  • Data for AI: You specialize in the data foundation of ML, including data engineering pipelines, feature stores, data quality and validation, and building systems for data-centric AI development.

You have:

  • 10+ years experience as a software developer, SRE, or other practitioner; including building and maintaining production systems
  • 3+ years of experience as an advocate and / or equivalent experience e.g. skilled at reaching software developers across multiple channels, such as written content, conference talks, leading workshops, live streaming or recording videos, contributing to open source, and participating in community events
  • You have publicly available writing samples, blog posts, demos, or recordings of presentations on technical topics
  • You are comfortable with at least 2 programming languages (eg Python, Go, Node.js, bash) and are familiar with modern infrastructure such as IaaS cloud services and containers
  • You enjoy self driven exploration and education on new technologies and languages

Bonus points:

  • You have contributed to open-source projects in the AI/ML space.
  • You are an active member of AI/ML or MLOps communities.

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
