About the role

The Data Governance Officer will establish and drive data governance initiatives across the organization. This role will focus on ensuring data quality, security, compliance, and usability through robust governance frameworks, with a specific emphasis on administering and leveraging Microsoft Purview for data cataloging, classification, and lineage tracking.

What you'll do

1. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive enterprise data governance policies, and standards.

2. Provide a strong voice in determining the enterprise data governance strategy.

3. Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to align data governance initiatives with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

4. Define and enforce data quality standards and establish metrics to monitor and improve data integrity across the organization.

5. Ensure compliance with any applicable data privacy regulations and internal data policies.

6. Collaborate with IT to safeguard sensitive data and implement best practices for data protection.

7. Serve as the primary administrator for Microsoft Purview, overseeing deployment, configuration, and ongoing management.

8. Design and implement data cataloging, classification, and data lineage features within Purview.

9. Provide training and guidance to data stewards, analysts, and technical teams on leveraging Purview for data discovery, compliance, and reporting.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data management, Information Technology/Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.

2. 5+ years in data governance, data management, or data quality positions.

3. Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Purview, including configuring metadata scanning, data classification, and lineage tracing.

4. Strong understanding of data privacy and industry standards.

5. Familiarity with data architecture, data modeling, and data security principles.

6. Proven leadership experience driving organization-wide data governance initiatives.

7. Experience integrating Purview with Azure Data Services and Power BI/Fabric.

8. Professional certifications such as DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model), CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), or DGSP (Data Governance & Stewardship Professional).

9. Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements, and ability to communicate governance requirements and best practices through documentation, presentations, and workshops.

10. Effective communicator and cross-functional collaborator.

11. Ability to lead initiatives, explain technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders, and mentor peers.
