About you:
Are you a hands-on data leader passionate about building robust data foundations and empowering users with data-driven insights? We're seeking a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer to join our foundational technology team and play a pivotal role in architecting, building, and maintaining our go-forward data estate and analytics solutions. You'll be instrumental in transforming our nascent data landscape into a powerful asset, directly impacting our ability to make informed decisions and drive business growth.
This is a unique opportunity for a player-coach who thrives in both technical execution and mentorship. You'll spend approximately 70% of your time on hands-on development and architecture, and 30% coaching business users to enhance their data literacy and ability to self-serve critical reports.
What you'll do
- Architect & Build: Design, develop, and implement our next-generation data architecture, pipelines, and analytics solutions on Azure. This includes addressing existing limitations and setting us up for scalable, reliable data operations.
- Data Estate Management: Own the end-to-end data lifecycle, ensuring data quality, integrity, and accessibility. You'll be a key driver in maturing our data estate from its current nascent state.
- BI & Reporting: Maintain and evolve our business intelligence reporting capabilities, including re-architecting existing blended data sources and implementing new solutions.
- Data Quality Champion: Identify, analyze, and resolve critical data quality issues that impact business insights and operational efficiency.
- Empower Users: Act as a coach and mentor to business users, teaching them how to leverage our BI tools for self-service reporting and fostering general data literacy across the organization.
- Collaborate: Work closely with the Head of Engineering and your teammates on the foundational technology team, sharing knowledge and contributing to our collective success. You'll also partner with various business stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver impactful solutions.
What you'll bring:
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a related analytics role.
- Expert-level proficiency in Azure data services. While specific services aren't currently in use, a strong understanding of the Azure ecosystem and its potential for data solutions is critical.
- Proven experience with database systems, specifically PostgreSQL.
- Strong programming skills in Python for data manipulation, scripting, and automation.
- A solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling.
- Demonstrated ability to improve data quality and integrate disparate data sources.
- Exceptional communication and teaching skills, with a passion for empowering non-technical users to work with data.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a strong sense of ownership.
- Experience with BI tools like Metabase (or similar) and a strong understanding of how to build and optimize reports for business users.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Databricks is a significant plus.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with data governance and master data management principles.
- Familiarity with various data lake concepts and technologies.
- Prior experience in a "player-coach" role or leading data initiatives
Where You'll Be:
We offer flexibility in your work location! For this role, you just need to be based within the US, allowing you to work where you feel most productive.
What Zivian Has for You:
This is an exciting time to join our team as we embark on a journey to unlock the full potential of our data. You'll have the autonomy to shape our data future, make a tangible impact on business operations, and work alongside a supportive team dedicated to foundational technology.
