Designing, developing, and maintaining XML schemas, transformations, and queries using industry-standard XML technologies

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled XML Developer to develop and maintain XML-based data solutions using standards such as RelaxNG, XML Schematron, XQuery, and XPath. This role involves creating XML schemas, validating XML documents, writing complex queries, and transforming XML data to meet enterprise data exchange and integration needs.

You will collaborate with data architects, integration teams, and software developers to deliver high-quality, standards-compliant XML solutions.

Key Responsibilities

XML Schema Design & Validation

• Develop and maintain XML schemas using RelaxNG and XML Schematron for data validation and business rule enforcement
• Create and optimize XML validation rules to ensure data quality and compliance
• Collaborate with data modeling teams to align XML schemas with business requirements

Querying & Data Transformation

• Write complex XQuery and XPath expressions to query and transform XML data
• Develop XSLT or other transformation pipelines to convert XML data between formats
• Optimize XML queries for performance in production environments

Integration & Support

• Support integration projects requiring XML data exchange and transformation
• Troubleshoot XML parsing, validation, and transformation issues
• Document XML standards, schemas, and query logic for reuse and governance

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years experience in XML development and related technologies
• Strong proficiency with XML schema languages: RelaxNG, XML Schema (XSD), and Schematron
• Extensive experience writing and optimizing XQuery and XPath expressions
• Knowledge of XSLT and XML parsing techniques
• Familiarity with XML tools and editors (oXygen, Stylus Studio, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• Experience with XML-based integration platforms and middleware
• Knowledge of related standards like SOAP, WSDL, or REST APIs with XML payloads
• Understanding of JSON and modern data interchange formats as complementary skills
• Prior experience in industries reliant on XML standards (publishing, finance, government)
