Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET) Specialist
Applying cutting-edge technologies to safeguard personal data and enable compliant, secure data innovation
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET) Specialist to research, design, and implement technical measures that protect personal data while enabling secure data sharing, analytics, and AI development. This role focuses on applying advanced PETs such as homomorphic encryption, differential privacy, federated learning, secure multiparty computation, and zero-knowledge proofs to real-world data use cases.
You will work closely with data engineers, privacy officers, legal teams, and research scientists to bridge the gap between privacy principles and technical implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Implementation of PETs
- Evaluate and implement privacy-preserving computation methods, such as homomorphic encryption, SMPC, and ZKPs
- Integrate differential privacy techniques into analytical and machine learning pipelines
- Design and test federated learning architectures that comply with privacy-by-design principles
- Contribute to prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and scalable deployment of PET-enabled systems
Privacy Engineering & Governance
- Collaborate with data governance, legal, and engineering teams to embed PETs into privacy risk mitigation strategies
- Assess the privacy impact of data processing and recommend technical controls aligned with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
- Support internal policy development and documentation of PETs in compliance processes and DPIAs
Research & Innovation
- Monitor and evaluate emerging PET trends and academic advancements
- Contribute to open-source initiatives, working groups, and standards bodies where PETs are evolving
- Provide technical thought leadership on next-generation data privacy infrastructure
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in privacy engineering, applied cryptography, or data protection technologies
- Strong knowledge of at least one or more PETs: homomorphic encryption, differential privacy, ZKPs, SMPC, or federated learning
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Rust, and use of cryptographic libraries
- Understanding of data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and how PETs contribute to compliance
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Cryptography, Privacy Engineering, or related fields
- Experience with libraries and frameworks like Google's DP Library, Microsoft SEAL, PySyft, OpenMined, or Zokrates
- Familiarity with privacy threat modeling and secure system design
- Participation in PET-related academic research, hackathons, or industry consortia
- Strong written and verbal communication for translating complex technical ideas to non-technical audiences
