Key Deliverables (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Responsible for developing a comprehensive approach to testing, including defining objectives, scope, and methodologies.
• Creating a test plan that outlines how testing will be conducted, including timelines, resources, and responsibilities.
• Leading the team in designing, developing, and maintaining test cases to ensure comprehensive coverage of requirements. 
• Overseeing the execution of test cases, including manual and automated testing, and ensuring proper documentation of test results. 
• Identifying, reporting, triaging and tracking defects discovered during testing by assigning proper severity, priority, and defect resolution(s). 
• Analyzing test results and delivering insightful reports on testing effort status, including defect density, test coverage, and pass/fail rates. 
• Developing and maintaining test automation frameworks and scenarios to improve efficiency and reliability of testing.
• Refining and enhancing existing frameworks and automating testing processes wherever possible.
• Ensuring that testing efforts cover all critical areas of the data platform/data warehouse including functional, performance, and security testing.
• Analyzing test coverage data and identifying areas for improvement and optimization.
• Identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with the testing process.
• Collaborating with other stakeholders, including developers, product managers, and business analysts, to ensure effective testing and quality assurance. 
• Communicating test results and findings to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. 
• Managing resources, including test engineers and tools, to ensure effective testing efforts. 
• Prioritizing testing activities based on risk and impact. 
• Identifying opportunities to improve the testing process and implement best practices. 
• Tracking and measuring key metrics to assess the effectiveness of testing efforts. 
• Actively participate in Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-up, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective to ensure key business deliverables are met with high quality standards.

Technical/Business Skills:

• Data Engineering:
  • Experience in designing robust test strategies for testing modern data platforms, data warehouse and data lakes.
  • Good knowledge of data warehouse principles, and concepts.
  • Technical expertise working in large scale Data Warehousing applications and databases such as Oracle, Netezza, Teradata, and SQL Server.
  • Understanding data pipeline architectures and tools like Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, or Apache Airflow for data transformation and loading. 
  • Experience with data warehousing platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift) and data lake technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark). 
  • Familiarity with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data validation within the ETL pipelines. 

• Data validation skills:
  • Ability to develop comprehensive test plans, identify test cases, and prioritize testing efforts. 
  • Ability to analyze data to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential issues, including the use of tools like Pandas or Spark. 
  • Exposure in testing data pipelines/frameworks built using any of industry leading ETL tools such as SAP Business Objects Data Services (BODS), Informatica Cloud Data Integration Services (IICS), IBM Data Stage & SSIS.
  • Experience of ELT tools such as DBT, Fivetran, and AWS Glue
  • Knowledge of test frameworks like PyTest, Unit Test & DBT for automated testing. 
  • Ability to automate data validation tasks using scripting languages like Python or similar. 
• Proficiency in various data validation methods, including data type validation, range validation, format validation, presence checks, pattern matching, cross-field validation, and uniqueness checks. 
• Experience with test management tools like Jira Xray, Zephyr, Synapse for effectively managing the test cases, test execution results, defects, and reports.
• Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries for data manipulation, retrieval, and analysis. This includes using joins, subqueries, windows functions, and other advanced features. 
• Experience in using SQL for testing data integrity, data transformations, and ETL processes. 
• Strong knowledge in understanding data architecture, data design patterns, modeling, and cloud data solutions (Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery) and coming up with effective test strategies and test cases.
• Having good experience in testing any of scheduling tools like Redwood, Control M & Airflow.
• Having good experience in testing any of data delivery reporting tools like PowerBI, Tableau & Cognos.
• Sound knowledge in leveraging any of third-party tools or custom framework for data validation and data quality.
• Data Model: Expertise in understanding Logical and Physical Data Model using Relational or Dimensional Modeling practices, high volume ETL/ELT processes.
• Performance testing of data pipelines and DB Objects to identify and raise if there are any performance bottlenecks.
• Experience in Gitlab version control and CI/CD processes.
• Experience working in Financial Industry is a plus.
• Having exposure to Master Data Management concepts is a plus.
• Having exposure to Informatica SaaS MDM, Informatica IDQ is a plus.
