Position Description:

The Louisville Automation and Robotics Research Institute (LARRI), at the University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant II interested in assisting with engineering research activities. This position is compensated at $15/hour for up to 40 hours a week. The candidate will be mentored by Dr. Dan Popa and will perform the following duties:

Selection and evaluation of robotic and automation equipment to be used in an industrial environment. Investigation of a computer vision solution, with both hardware and software that identifies 3D objects in real-time. Conduct experiments with existing equipment at LARRI and in simulation environments and identify opportunities for improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in computer science, electrical, mechanical engineering.

  • Working knowledge of project and team management software such as MS Project and MS Teams. Proficiency with software such as Python, C++, MATLAB and ROS; and hardware such as industrial robots, and visual inspection cameras.

  • The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in hands-on robotics development and testing.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
