Job Summary:

Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

Data is essential for all our decision-making needs whether it’s related to product design, measuring advertising effectiveness, helping users discover new content or building new businesses in emerging markets. This data is deeply valuable and gives us insights into how we can continue improving our service for our users, advertisers and our content partners. Our Audience team is seeking a highly motivated Data Engineer with a strong technical background and passionate about diving deeper into Big Data to develop state of the art Data Solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes in support of analytics and audience engagement initiatives

  • Contribute to the development and optimization of data models and warehouse structures for reporting and analysis

  • Work with tools and technologies including Hadoop, AWS, Snowflake, Spark, and Airflow

  • Collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Data Product Managers, and Analysts to understand requirements and deliver reliable data solutions

  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure quality and maintainability of data solutions

  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues to ensure performance and reliability

  • Support data governance and data quality initiatives through documentation and validation

Basic Qualifications

  • 3 years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role working with large-scale data systems

  • Proficient in SQL for data extraction and transformation

  • Experience with one or more distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hive, Presto)

  • Solid programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java

  • Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)

  • Exposure to data pipeline orchestration tools such as Airflow or similar

  • Understanding of basic data modeling principles and warehouse design

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Comfortable working in Agile teams and adapting to changing priorities

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field

The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $104,600.00 - $140,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
