StubHub is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to drive the next generation of technology that powers how millions of fans explore, interact with, and attend live events worldwide. You’ll lead a high-impact engineering team from a technical standpoint, driving key architectural decisions, trade-offs, delivering critical systems that enable trustworthy, scalable, and insightful experimentation across all consumer-facing and internal applications. 

As a strategic technical leader, you’ll define architecture, ship robust systems rapidly, and raise the technical bar for your team and across the organization. You’ll translate ambiguous business needs into executable strategies, produce detailed workplans enabling parallel engineering execution, and drive measurable improvements in quality, performance, and feature velocity. You'll be deeply embedded in shaping our commercial and product strategy, leveraging domain expertise to make decisions that reflect both user needs and business value.

Without you, there’s no journey to begin.   Location: Hybrid (3 days in office/2 days remote) – Los Angeles, CA or Aliso Viejo, CA   About the team: Join StubHub's Direct Issuance team as a Staff Engineer to architect and build the next generation of our partner inventory synchronization platform. You'll work on high-impact systems that enable ticket partners to seamlessly integrate their inventory with StubHub's marketplace, directly affecting millions of ticket buyers and thousands of partner relationships.   What You'll Do
  •  Drive Impact-Maximization Initiatives: Lead architectural decisions that create step-function capability increases, enabling new partner integrations and unlocking previously impossible problem spaces
  • Solve Complex Technical Problems: Tackle challenging distributed systems problems involving real-time inventory synchronization, hash-based change detection, and AI-powered diagnostics at massive scale
  • Champion User Experience: Design partner-facing APIs and integration experiencesthat make integrating with our platform simple
  • Build AI-First Solutions: Leverage Claude AI and other ML technologies to create intelligent systems
  • Lead Technical Strategy: Drive execution-efficiency improvements across the sync pipeline, from partner API integrations through marketplace publishing
  • Mentor and Guide: Influence technical direction while coaching other engineers on architectural patterns, problem-solving approaches, and operational excellence practices

What You've Done

  • You have at least 10 years of professional experience in software development across multiple programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, or Go.
  • Your expertise extends to designing and implementing robust, mission-critical systems.
  • Strong Problem Solver: Proven ability to break down complex technical challenges, identify root causes, and design elegant solutions that scale
  • User Experience Centric: Deep empathy for developer experience and partner needs, with a track record of building intuitive APIs and integration tools
  • Systems Thinking: Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and high-throughput data processing pipelines
  • Platform Engineering: Background building developer platforms, APIs, or infrastructure that other teams depend on
  • Operational Excellence Mindset: Experience with observability, monitoring, and building resilient systems that gracefully handle failures
  • AI/ML Interest: Curiosity about leveraging AI for operational insights, automation, and developer productivity (experience with Claude, GPT, or similar preferred)

The anticipated gross base pay range is below for this role. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.
