What you'll do...

About the Team:

  • The Unified Payments team is building a next-generation platform to handle all payment processing across Walmart’s physical and digital channels.

  • The platform is being re-architected from a legacy mainframe to a modern, cloud-native solution.

 Senior Software Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering scalable solutions for Walmart’s Unified Payments Platform. You’ll work closely with Staff Engineers and cross-functional teams to build cloud-native systems that power billions of transactions. You’ll also begin to explore and apply AI technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic tools, to enhance system intelligence and developer productivity.

What You’ll Do:

  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable, maintainable software solutions.

  • Design and implement microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Kubernetes in a cloud-native environment.

  • Collaborate with Staff Engineers and Architects to align on technical direction and best practices.

  • Contribute to the integration of LLMs and AI agents into internal tools and services to improve automation and decision-making.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and mentoring of junior engineers.

  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.

  • Continuously improve system performance, observability, and reliability.

About You:

  • You are a strong backend engineer with a passion for clean code, scalable systems, and continuous learning.

  • You’re curious about AI and LLMs, and eager to explore how they can be applied to real-world engineering problems.

  • You enjoy working in a collaborative environment and are ready to take on increasing leadership responsibilities.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5–8 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend systems.

  • Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and cloud platforms (GCP preferred).

  • Exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI/ML tools is a plus.

  • Familiarity with agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, CrewAI) is a bonus.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, observability, and DevOps practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience modernizing legacy systems or working on payment platforms.

  • Contributions to internal tools or AI-driven developer productivity initiatives.

  • Passion for mentoring and growing as a technical leader.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00
