We're seeking an experienced Optical Systems Engineer to join our Reality Labs team, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AR display and imaging systems. As a key member of our team, you'll explore new architectures and design spaces for AR optical systems, develop and analyze system components, and drive detailed system-level analysis.

In this role, you will be part of an environment where you are will consistently switch between high-level thinking and meticulous attention to detail to mature our architectures and designs.Optical Systems Engineer Responsibilities
  • Develop calibration routines and methods to meet display performance requirements
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate end to end display calibration enables the product concept of operation
  • Contribute to the process of design releases, prototyping and creation of RFQ, ERS documentation
  • Operate and calibrate precision optical measurement equipment (e.g., spectroradiometers, colorimeters, photometers)
  • Analyze test data and prepare detailed reports, identifying trends and recommending improvements
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and design teams to resolve display-related issues and optimize system integration
  • Define display quality criteria and validation procedures aligned to product requirements and industry standards
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of display defects or anomalies
  • Stay informed about advancements in display metrology and validation techniques
  • Present validation results and technical findings to project teams and stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree or equivalent experience in the field of Optics, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or a similar field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of experience in applied research and/or product development of optics or photonic systems
  • 2+ years of experience with optical systems requiring any combination of the following: imaging, illumination, physical optics, stray light analysis, radiometry, photometry
  • Experience maturing optical systems from proof-of-concept to early low volume prototype or production
  • Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience with automated test systems and scripting (Python, MATLAB, C++ or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of AR display technologies (LCOS, MicroLED, Waveguides, etc.)
  • Proficiency with measurement equipment used for evaluating display and optical characteristics
  • Solid understanding of color science, photometry, and applicable industry standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with display calibration development
  • Experience with measurement automation for production environment
  • Experience with image processing, calibration algorithms, statistical data analysis, and applying machine learning methods
  • Experience in opto-mechanical design tools such as Ansys, Solidworks, NX

$111,000/year to $164,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
