At Convergent Energy and Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies.
The Director, Energy Market and Portfolio Analysis drives the performance and optimization of Convergent’s portfolio of energy storage and renewable energy assets. This role oversees cross-functional issue resolution, portfolio tracking and forecasting, and owns the reporting and analysis supporting customer invoicing.
This is an individual contributor role and therefore does not have any direct reports, but will exercise informal mentorship and guidance to junior level staff.
What You’ll Do
Portfolio Strategy & Optimization (30%)
o Lead analyses of market conditions, operational data, and contract structures to optimize revenue and minimize costs of the operating portfolio.
o Interpret the structure, prices, tariffs, and programs in specific energy markets to model, forecast, and optimize the performance of our BESS and PV fleet.
o Monitor evolving market regulations and contractual obligations, proactively adjusting strategies to maintain compliance and mitigate risks.
o Collaborate with senior leadership to align reporting, operational objectives, and long-term portfolio strategies with overall company goals.
Financial & Operational Modeling and Reporting (30%)
o Develop and maintain complex financial models for forecasting P&Ls and evaluating assets guiding both short-term and long-term portfolio strategies.
o Establish and maintain performance dashboards that track revenue, costs, and operational metrics across the portfolio.
o Oversee the creation and review of all reports, tools, and analyses required for customer invoices, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to contract terms including LD, penalties, performance metrics, and SLAs.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration (25%)
o Lead and facilitate issue-resolution sessions with Operations, Finance, Engineering, and other teams, ensuring critical bottlenecks are identified and resolved.
o Provide guidance, training, and oversite to a small team of analysts, sharing best practices in data analysis, modeling, contract interpretation, and market research.
o Serve as the primary liaison for third parties such as community solar agents and market participants to ensure they align with Convergent’s strategic priorities.
Continuous Improvement & Strategic Initiatives (15%)
o Contribute to building a culture of continuous improvement of analytical methodologies, tools, and processes across the organization
o Utility Player: Demonstrate ownership, project management, resourcing, and resolution of ad hoc assigned projects across multiple disciplines pertaining to the company’s operating portfolio.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
o Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Advanced degree or MBA is a plus.
o 5-10 years in analyzing and modeling diverse aspects of electricity markets, energy markets, tariffs, and regulatory frameworks.
o Demonstrated success in building complex financial and operational models, with a thorough understanding of debt structures and energy market drivers.
o Advanced Excel modeling and proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
o Strong familiarity with electricity markets, tariffs, revenue streams, regulatory frameworks, and energy market participation processes.
o Excellent written and verbal skills, with an ability to distill complex information into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
o Capable of guiding and mentoring junior team members; proven track record of leading projects or initiatives.
o Adept at identifying opportunities for value creation and process improvement across the asset portfolio.
o Able to manage multiple projects with precision in a fast-paced environment.
o Familiarity with renewable energy project structures (PV, BESS) and associated commercial/regulatory considerations.

o 5% travel expected, primarily for team events and company-wide meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
o Familiarity with market participation rules and procedures for energy assets.
o Experience using Machine Learning libraries to identify patterns and evaluate operational strategies using large data sets.

Base Salary Range: $160,000-$180,000; Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
