The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is the research division of the company. ATG’s mission is to look ahead, deliver insights, and innovate technological solutions that will fuel Dolby’s continued growth. Our researchers have a broad range of expertise related to computer science and electrical engineering, such as AI/ML, algorithms, digital signal processing, audio engineering, image processing, computer vision, data science & analytics, distributed systems, cloud, edge & mobile computing, computer networking, and IoT.
Job Summary
At Dolby Laboratories, we investigate perceptual aspects of the human visual system and turn what we
learn into technologies and products for improving perceived video/image quality. Understanding the
relationship between science, art, and engineering is fundamental to doing this well. This internship
aims to advance our understanding of the human visual system and visual processing in regard to the
latest development of generative AI image and video synthesis techniques.
We are looking for a motivated and energetic researcher to join our team and design and implement
psycho-visual experiments covering various aspects related to generative AI technologies, color science
and human perception.
Responsibilities
• Design psycho-visual experiments to study aspects of visual perception
• Write software that is efficient, bug free, understandable to others and well documented.
• Run subjective experiments to quantify and/or validate human perception attributes
• Analyze results and run statistical analysis
• Document and present findings
Qualifications
• Working towards a PhD degree in Imaging or Color Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer
Science or a related field
• Ability to prototype quickly, with adept critical thinking skills
• Understanding of human perception
• Experience designing psycho-visual experiments
• Understanding of display calibration
• Proficient in Matlab and/or Python (Tensorflow/Pytorch) programming applied to image/video
processing
• Experience with visual quality metrics, data analysis and statistics modeling is a plus
• Knowledge of generative AI methods such as Midjourney, Sora, Dall.E is a plus
• Proven track record of writing technical reports and published papers is a plus
• Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented work ethic

Eligibility:
Working towards a PhD in Imaging or Color Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a
related field; recent grads who are within 6 months of graduation are also eligible to apply. Must be
available to work full-time Monday – Friday for 3 months between September 2024 – December 2024.
Start date for the internship is as follows: (*note* this date is not flexible)

The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $44-57/hr and can vary if outside of this location. Our hourly ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific hourly range and perks and benefits for your location during the hiring process.
