Role Overview:

SFI Innovation & Engineering provides an outstanding opportunity to work with data in a global company whilst in a team with the culture of a start-up. 

We investigate the application of new technology to LSEG Sustainable Finance & Investment products and services. We are involved in a large range of projects using a multitude of different technologies, so a successful candidate is unlikely to be assigned to a single product or service. Information about specific projects may be discussed during the interview process.

As a part of our team of data scientists, engineers and UX/UI designers you will be part of our global network of like-minded colleagues.

Main Responsibilities 

• Create minimal viable products utilising data science techniques directly for our customers 

• Devise compelling proposals with technologists and business to drive innovation from conception to production with appropriate success metrics  

• Lead and support projects, removing obstacles and taking ownership to find creative solutions 

• Acquire domain expertise in financial market content and in LSEG data and products 

• Network in the fintech, big tech and academic community through conferences, meetups and workshops – bringing leading edge techniques and technology into business strategy. 

• Engage with senior level SMEs internally and externally to discover problems and use cases as well as to translate business impact of ongoing and completed projects. 

Required Skills: 

• PhD or Master’s degree in a highly quantitative field such as finance, computer science, physics, applied mathematics, or engineering. 

• 2+ years industry experience working in a data science or machine learning engineering role  

• Experience producing and rapidly delivering minimum viable products.  

• Strong programming experience in Python and its core libraries like NumPy, Pandas. 

• Hands-on experience with ML, Deep Learning, and NLP 

• Experience working with large datasets to build machine learning models 

• Experience with database management languages, such as SQL 

• Ability to track down complex data quality and data integration issues, evaluate different algorithmic approaches, and analyze data to solve problems. Curiosity about the details of datasets is critical. 

• Positive approach to learning new skills and technologies 

• Excellent communication and social skills and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team. 

Desirable Experience 

• Experience using Cloud to perform large scale calculations, such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure 

• Domain knowledge in financial services such as quantitative finance, Financial Engineering, Electronic Trading or Risk Modelling. 

• Experience with Spark ML/MLlib or similar big data technologies 

• Good understanding and appreciation of software engineering principles 

• Familiarity with emerging themes and technologies in data science  

• Confidence in communicating complex projects clearly to senior management
