Nomad Health’s 2023 Summer Emerging Talent Internship is a paid 12-week program that provides students with challenging, development-oriented projects and skills workshops. Internship opportunities are available on Nomad’s Product and Engineering teams. As an intern, you will take on a 12-week project geared towards solving one of Nomad’s present challenges. You will gain direct experience in your field of interest and engage in professional development sessions with senior leaders and various key stakeholders across Nomad. Each intern will be paired with a Nomad mentor to further build their professional skills and network.
As a Machine Learning Engineering Intern you will support the delivery of high-impact machine learning projects end-to-end. You will collaborate with the Data Science team to utilize Nomad’s extensive historical data and state-of-the-art machine learning approaches to deliver effective models that change the game for Nomad. Specifically, you will collaborate and work closely with a mentor to solve challenging recommendation problems for Nomad Health. You will be building and maintaining personalized recommendation algorithms that help clinicians get to the bedside faster.
Responsibilities/What You Will Do
- Help influence the long-term evolution of web technology for the country’s first tech-driven healthcare staffing platform!
- With the support of our Data Science team, create and work on your own project plan to further optimize Nomad’s staffing platform. This may include designing machine learning models, optimizing recommendation systems, or building infrastructure to support our ML Platform.
- The Data Science team uses the following tech stack:
- Python 3 (required) to build Kubeflow pipelines
- Google Cloud Platform (VertexAI, Bigquery, GCS)
- SQL (preferred) to build our feature queries
- Docker
- Neo4j for graph databases
- Git/GitHub (required)
- JupyterLab and Google Colab (required)
- Our team works on macOS on MacBook Pros
- Engage in personalized mentorship sessions to make strides toward individual career goals
- Participate in cross-departmental learning and social events events to strengthen industry knowledge, professional skills, and grow your network
- Build community with Nomad employees and fellow interns through social events
Qualifications/ Skills - What You Will Need
- Anticipated graduation date between December 2023 and August 2024
- Ability to be in-office at least once weekly in our NYC headquarters Monday-Friday 9 am - 5 pm EST during summer 2023 (dates flexible according to academic calendar)
- Foundational knowledge/coursework in software development/data science
- Fundamental understanding of Linear Algebra
- At least one year of programming experience in Python. Bonus points for familiarity with SQL.
- A sense of curiosity and excitement to take on new challenges
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Desire to engage in independent and collaborative projects to grow in your field of interest
- Bonus: Previous software engineering experience from an internship, volunteering, open source contributions, or a coding competition
*This is a non-exempt role. Hourly pay rate is $50.00/per hour. Health, dental and vision benefits are not provided.
