To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Computational Linguist to join our Intelligence team. This person will help build and support algorithms for text improvement using computational linguistics technologies.
Grammarly’s Intelligence teams have the freedom to innovate and uncover breakthroughs—and, in turn, influence our product roadmap. Your impact
As a Computational Linguist, you will be responsible for developing methods for identifying and correcting writing issues using computational linguistics technologies. In this role, you will:
- Conduct research on a number of linguistic issues (including different modes, genres, and styles of writing).
- Work with large corpora.
- Explore different linguistic resources and tools and work on improving and building some of them.
- Write production code to solve various writing issues.
- Analyze user feedback to improve our product offering.
- Collaborate with software engineers, applied research scientists, analytical linguists, and product managers on complex solutions to natural language processing tasks.
We’re looking for someone who
- Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
- Is able to collaborate in person 2 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub where the team is based.
- Has a B2 or higher level in both spoken and written English.
- Has a profound knowledge of language structure and is able to identify patterns in natural language.
- Is proficient in rule-based and statistical methods of natural language processing.
- Can effectively use linguistic resources (dictionaries, ontologies, word embeddings, etc.) and big corpora.
- Has a strong knowledge of natural language processing tools, including part-of-speech taggers, syntactic parsers, named entity recognition systems, etc.
- Has a basic knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
- Has at least 2 years of production programming experience (preferably Python, Clojure, or Java).
