To meet students where they are, we will host summer internships in both a virtual and in-person format. Opportunities listed will either be in-person (requiring an intern to work from an NBCU office location 3-5 days per week) based on the location mentioned or virtual, depending on business needs.
In addition to all our internships being paid, we will also offer the following for our Summer 2023 interns:
- Paid company holidays for full-time interns.
- Robust networking, learning and development opportunities for all interns, whether in-person or virtual.
- Financial assistance to offset expenses for transportation and housing may be available on a needs-based basis for eligible in-person interns. More details about eligibility for this assistance will be provided at the time of offer.
Job Description
Summer 2023 Internship Program:

- Program Dates: June 5 – August 11, 2023
- Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.

Data Product Management: Data Product Management sit at the heart of Decision Science and have the responsibility for directing and managing the data products across the business. Our team has responsibility for data products across Peacock and Sky Showtime as well as any future joint ventures. We work with stakeholders across NBCU including product, finance and technology as well as other decision science teams such as marketing analytics and data science. As part of this role they will also be able to work with our Sky colleagues in Europe. We work closely with the Data Platform team in Sky OTT as well as the wider Sky and NOW teams so this is an excellent opportunity to experience the breadth of the group. Our team will be supporting a range of projects across NBCU including the launch of a new joint venture. They will have the opportunity to contribute to a large-scale international project and experience how a project progresses from requirements to being live in production.
TV & Streaming Data Science: Our Data Science program is designed to provide interns with real-world experience working on projects on a typical Data Science environment, using state of the art tools and technologies, while gaining broad exposure to the media industry. Interns will acquire specific responsibilities, goals, and timelines aligned with the teams they are embedded in. Join us as we collaborate across our business to support and inform data-enhanced strategic decisions.
- TV & Streaming Data Engineering: Our Data Engineering program is designed to provide interns with real-world data engineering experience, using state of the art tools and technologies. Working as part of our data engineering team, interns will help to design and develop custom decision sciences product for the media industry. Interns will acquire specific responsibilities, goals, and timelines aligned with the teams in which they are embedded. Join us as we collaborate across our business to design and implement engineering solutions that drive data-enhanced strategic decisions.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the length of the program.
- Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal.
- Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
Desired Characteristics:
- Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Knowledge of data platforms such as Google Cloud.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (ability to communicate and coordinate between teams).
- Detail and results oriented, able to write detailed specs and analyze data to justify product decisions and apply key learnings.
- Comfortable with utilizing SQL to explore and understand the data.
- Working knowledge of at least two of the following programming languages: R, Python, Julia, Java, Scala or similar.
- Prior experience with Machine Learning and/or statistical modelling.
- Familiarity with Spark, Databricks and/or AWS.
- Experience with data visualization techniques and reporting tools like Tableau.
- Working knowledge of Python, R, Pyspark, Angular, or JavaScript.
- Experience working in cloud computing environment, designing solution architecture.
The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00
The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $35.00
