Experience using ArcGIS, ArcGIS StoryMaps, and Tableau or similar geospatial and data visualization tools

Job Description:

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Administration, in partnership with Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension, seeks applicants for a Data Analyst II to coordinate the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy measurement project. The Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy is a science and technology-based approach to assess and reduce nutrients delivered to Iowa waterways and the Gulf of Mexico. The strategy outlines voluntary efforts to reduce nutrients in surface water from both point sources, such as wastewater treatment plants and industrial facilities, and nonpoint sources, including farm fields, in a scientific, reasonable and cost-effective manner.   

This position will work with Iowa State University faculty and staff, state and federal agency staff and NGO staff to gather, compile and analyze social and biophysical indicators that lead to reduced nutrient loss and improved water quality. 

Position responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with Iowa State University, agency and NGO personnel to collect and manage secondary datasets including public and private resource commitments, knowledge and attitude surveys, land use, conservation and farming practices, and water quality monitoring from state and federal sources.

  • Organizing and analyzing survey data, script-writing, analyzing trends in resource commitments, land use, farming, conservation practices and water quality, and estimating calculated nutrient loads.

  • Developing and maintaining summary reports and data-visualization dashboards.   

​The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders including researchers, extension specialists, state and federal agency staff and agricultural, conservation, and environmental stakeholder audiences will be important to the candidate’s success. Excellent partnership management and development skills as well as strong project management skills and experience will also be important for this position. 

This is a regular, fixed term position through 6/30/2027, with opportunity for renewal pending funding.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
