Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Health Equity Data Analyst 1 for the Health Data and Policy Division by planning, organizing, formulating and performing healthy equity activities of a highly complex, scientific and technical nature. Participates in activities and research involving methodology and modeling. Prepares reports on health equity measures.

Job Responsibilities

1.  Under direction, participates in health equity analysis projects for the Division of Health Data and Policy.
• Collects, edits, and interprets data used in population estimates, projections, and health equity.
• Review health equity and health data.
• Prepares statistical tabulations and visual displays of data for the Department website and for publication.


2.  Compiles and analyzes health equity data received from federal and state sources.
• Prepares tables and graphs on level and trends of equity measures.
• Prepares visualizations and oral and written communications for a variety of audiences including stakeholders and community members.


3.  Conducts health equity-related analyses, surveys, and research projects through consultation and fulfilling requests for health equity data.
• Conducts background research to assist in the planning of analysis, surveys and research projects.
• Conducts analysis of health equity-related data with consultation of supervisor and other leadership.
• Consults with internal and external stakeholders to identify and evaluate research projects, surveys and analysis of demographic characteristics and social determinants of health as it relates to public health and health equity.

 

4.  Prepares health equity data analysis plans and reports for census tracts and zip codes as appropriate.
• Compiles or finds input data for health equity reports and presentations.
• Evaluate the input data for accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
• Develops computational steps to produce the reports presentations.
• Reviews the output.
• Prepares reports for publication and distribution.


5.  Collaborates with professional staff in the Division on statistical data.
• Assists in computations in the analysis of data and preparing data visualizations.


6.  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Master’s degree in anthropology, biochemistry chemistry, medicine, physiology, psychology, sociology, behavioral science, criminal justice, criminology, statistics, mathematics or a related science; or admission into a Ph.D. program in anthropology, biochemistry, chemistry, medicine, physiology, psychology, sociology, behavioral science, criminal justice, criminology, statistics, mathematics or a related science.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year experience, in a professional or academic setting, compiling and analyzing health equity data to interpret how race, ethnicity, culture, societal, educational, professional backgrounds, age, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation and social determinants of health may impact public health.
  • One year experience collecting, editing, or interpreting data used in population estimates, projections, and health equity in a professional or academic setting.
  • One year experience conducting health equity-related analyses, surveys, and research projects for presentation to stakeholders or state or national conferences or written communication for professional and community use in a professional or academic setting.
  • One year experience using statistical software such as SAS, R, SPSS, SUDAAN, or STATA in a professional or academic setting.
  • One year experience preparing population estimates and projections or experience using ACS or US Census Bureau data in a professional or academic setting.
  • One year experience assisting in computations in the analysis of data and preparing data visualizations using Tableau, Power BI or other data visualization software or Excel charts/graphs in a professional or academic setting.

Work Hours:  Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm
