The Sr. DevOps Engineer role provides support for R&D initiatives. The role is primarily responsible for the availability and reliability of the infrastructure and business services within R&D group: Hadoop (Cloudera) ecosphere, as well as Kubernetes/OpenShift and ML/AI environments - on-prem and in the cloud. Heavy experience with variety of open-source technologies, as well as DevOps experience.
Responsibilities
Service Design and Transition
- Designs systems based upon best practices with repeatable standard configurations
- Designs processes and services with a focus on the long term and operational maintainability.
- Configures robust solutions based upon business requirements to ensure reliability and availability of business services.
- Develop and maintain automation capabilities across on-prem and cloud environments
- Documents system configurations.
Service Operations
- Performs basic administration activities including security, OS tuning, log management, networking.
- Creates proactive monitoring services to capture and report availability and performance characteristics.
- Performance tuning across on-prem and cloud based on Big Data solutions
- Automates system monitoring and notification processes.
- Maintains configuration and releases internal software to production systems.
- Deploys code via CI/CD pipelines
- Applies software and security patches.
Project Support
- Provides technical expertise on – prem systems (Hadoop (Cloudera), ML/AI)
- Provides technical expertise on Azure ML/AI + Hadoop technologies
- Estimates level of effort and creates action plans for project deliverables.
- Meets project deliverables and documents solutions based upon project needs.
- Communicates and transfers knowledge to peers and project team members.
- Supports R&D in project tasks and administration of development environments.
- Comfortable with agile methodologies.
Business Support
- Demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of Linux-based administration including security, networking, performance management/tuning, and system monitoring.
- Experience configuring and managing enterprise Hadoop implementations preferred.
- Python preferred
- Automation experience with Puppet, Ansible and Terraform is preferred
- Shell scripting experience preferred
- Knowledgeable in CI/CD processes and how they relate to containerization efforts
- Kerberos and security integration experience preferred
- Communicates effectively with both IT and business users.
- Interfaces with peer groups such as production control, database administration, and service desk/help desk for incident and problem management.
Other Related Responsibilities:
- Rotates in on call duties providing off hours troubleshooting and support.
- Complete all responsibilities as outlined on annual Performance Plan.
- Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in computer science, information technology, information systems, management information science, electrical engineering, mathematics or related field required ; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
- 4-5 years of experience in administration of enterprise-class Unix based systems production/operational environments.
- 4-5 years of experience managing enterprise Hadoop ecosphere
- 4-5 years of experience within devops
- 4-5 years of experience working with project or development teams to support infrastructure needs.
- Demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of system administration including:
- Security
- networking,
- backup and recovery,
- performance management/tuning,
- and system monitoring.
- Proven knowledge across open-source big data technologies, like:
- Hadoop (Cloudera)
- TensorFlow
- Spark
- Oozie
- Pytorch
- K8s / OpenShift
- Health plan operations experience desired.
- Professional with ability to properly handle confidential information.
- Ability to convert business requirements and project plans to actionable items
- Service oriented.
- Ability to convert business requirements and project plans to actionable items.
- Strong technical background in Linux based systems.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring solutions preferred.
- Experience with automation tools preferred.
- Ability to work within a matrix organization
- Ability to work well independently with little supervision and in a team environment.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Base compensation ranges from $110,000 to $154,000. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
