Data Management Consultant - Business Engagement

OVERVIEW:

Supports implementation of data strategy. Coordinates with stakeholders to provide implementation planning support for data policy, standards, and critical data management capabilities.

FUNCTION:

Supports implementation of data strategy. Coordinates with stakeholders to provide implementation planning support for data policy, standards, and critical data management capabilities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate in stakeholder engagements to ensure federated data management teams, data management capability owners, and data subject matter expert are effectively collaborating. 
• Serve as data management subject matter expert to advise organization on effective data management practices
• Administer data governance tools
• Consult with business lines to develop implementation plans for data management capabilities
• Perform analyses and gap assessments to understand progress towards data strategy implementation.
• Provide tactical support to business line implementation plans, including collection of technical metadata, management of issues, and prioritization and classification of data.
• Assist data management capability owners in communication planning for federated data management teams
• Maintain currency on changing industry standards and pertinent Federal and international government regulations on data management and its subsequent impact on related policies and procedures.
• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years related experience
• Experience with analytical/statistical tools
• Knowledge of data management concepts, terminology, roles, and responsibilities
• Familiarity with the data lifecycle
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate to non-technical individuals about technical topics
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

• Experience with data management and query languages
• Experience with data management at a financial institution
• Experience measuring and enforcing data governance policy and standards in a local area
• Intermediate knowledge of the data life cycle
• Experience completing data research using industry standard research methods

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $82,783.41 - $137,972.36 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
