Searching for a Full-time Data Scientist in Washington, DC.

In this role, you will develop and apply methods to identify, collect, process, and analyze large volumes of data to build and enhance products, processes, and systems. Conduct data mining and retrieval, and applies statistical and mathematical analyses to identify trends, solve analytical problems, optimize performance, maintenance, and sustainment, and improve overall processes. Apply programming, statistics, and visualization to glean insights from large and disparate data sources.  Knowledge of and skill in the use of Structured Query Language (SQL), Python data science and visualization packages (PyMC3, matplotlib, Bokeh, Sci-Kit, TensorFlow), MatLAB, PHP, Tableau, and similar data integration services and data visualization tools.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design and development of methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured, diverse and/or large data sets from disparate sources
  • Develop and use advanced statistical concepts, algorithms, querying and automated processes to clean, model, integrate and evaluate complex datasets and business problems for practical application
  • Be familiar with the principals of related disciplines such as Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Predictive modeling, Statistical Analysis and Hypothesis testing
  • Support development of information tools, algorithms, dashboards, and queries to monitor and improve business performance
  • Identify meaningful insights and interpret and communicate findings and recommendations
  • Responsible for maintaining awareness of emerging analytics and big-data technologies
  • Works to achieve day-to-day objectives with moderate impact on the area/ project team. 
  • Works independently on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments. 
  • May assist other technical staff with tasks and assignments
  • Address somewhat complex technical issues/problems using internal best practice and through collaboration with colleagues.
  • Develop solutions to technical problems that require depth of technical knowledge, but are typically limited in complexity
  • Explain technical solutions, practices and procedures to others within the organization
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developing products for, and participating in in-depth technical reviews and engineering meetings
  • Providing technical feedback, products, and recommendations to clients
  • Interacting with client and subcontractors in the assessment and review of deliverables, and integration with Warfare Systems and platform design
  • Supporting a culture of collaboration, enthusiasm, and a proactive nature within the Project

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years documented experience applying statistical analysis and data mining to apply, learn, and improve understanding of data. A Bachelor’s degree is required or a Master's degree in relevant field such as Operations Research, Data Science, Applied Mathematics/Statistics, Business Management or Human Resources Management

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Ability to achieve an active Secret Security Clearance
  • Documented experience working with web-based collaboration tools (e.g. SharePoint).
  • Documented experience with Python, R, and/or MATLAB. Documented experience developing detailed/interactive visualizations and exploratory data analysis.  Experience with projects using Machine Learning, statistical methods, and natural language processing.  
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and easily readable technical correspondence to document reviews of technical recommendations following technical reviews and collating of comments.
  • Articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
  • Experience working dynamic programs with fluctuating scope and integrated coordination of multiple engineering disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented experience with the marine or defense environment.
  • Experience with training and readiness of Navy/Coast Guard vessels.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
