Role Purpose

The Head of Data Platforms sits in Digital Technology Services (DTS) and is responsible for the delivery and operational support of data platforms across Control Risks. The Head of Data Platforms manages the Data Engineering team’s delivery of project requirements and support requests from across the business.
You will work with the Head of Data Engineering, and Architecture and Infrastructure teams in DTS to mature our data platforms and the team supporting these platforms.

You will work with Product Owners and Delivery Managers in Digital Technology Services and stakeholders across the firm to deliver on Control Risks data and reporting strategy across the Control Risks’ business.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, vision, and direction to the data engineering team to ensure it contributes to the company achieving its goals.
  • Work with Director of Data Science and Strategy and other IT leaders to develop the overall data platforms strategy and roadmap in the context of the business strategy.
  • Manage the technical roadmap, and data and reporting delivery roadmap of the data engineering team.
  • Work with business and technology stakeholders to define a strategy and a prioritized roadmap for development of our data platforms and the data itself.
  • Respond to, and resolve, high priority data and reporting requests.
  • Manage the resolution of incidents associated with the data platform.
  • Mature our data platforms. This includes resolving technical debt; developing self-service data functionality; working with the Head of Data Engineering to develop standardised data pipeline patterns; and ensuring the team is implementing good practices around data-validation, data quality and monitoring.
  • Provide thought leadership to enable the business to exploit Control Risks’ data.
  • Manage, directly and indirectly, personnel, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organisation, as well as building on existing recruiting capabilities to address new needs and skills gaps.
  • Work with the Head of Information Security and Head of Tech Assurance to ensure that the data platforms are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.

Requirements

Knowledge and experience

  • Significant, relevant and recent demonstrated experience of managing a high-performing, technical, cohesive team.
  • Experience working with Cloud infrastructure.
  • Understand modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully working with business stakeholders.
  • Waterfall, agile delivery, and DevOps principles and frameworks.
  • Experience working in a service delivery environment.

Qualifications and Specialist Skills

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or equivalent experience, in computer science, engineering, finance, business management or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate effectively with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical people to enhance understanding and to drive decisions that lead to positive outcomes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in a matrix-management environment (as well as external vendors and service providers) to ensure that segregation and overlapping roles are identified and coordinated.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and management of multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
  • Strong analytical, data processing and problem-solving skills.
