Within Casualty Data Analytics, you will be involved in these and related fields. 

 

About the Role  

 

In this role you apply your proven, solid quantitative skills to business problems, delivering tangible, business-relevant insights based on robust quantitative analyses. Staying abreast of ongoing developments in data science, you help the team identify innovations that are most relevant and applicable to our data and tasks, supporting the application of new theories to real-life problems in costing and Casualty reinsurance more broadly. Identifying convincing as well as counter-intuitive results and drawing business-relevant inferences are our natural test of applicability and relevance. 

 

Through continuous, close interactions with our partner teams you will be 

 

  • Working with our unique Casualty exposure data, support the team in further enhancing it, enriching with further relevant data 
  • Extracting actionable business insights, at the same time helping us identifying and applying the right tools from the rapidly evolving data science landscape for this tasks 
  • Together with our actuarial colleagues, working on ongoing developments of costing models and tools for Casualty business 

 

About the Unit and the Team 

 

Our work at Swiss Re's Casualty Portfolio Analytics and Steering department is all about data-led underwriting in Casualty, both deal-specific and at portfolio level. Identifying trends in Casualty business and translating them into costing and portfolio steering is our passion. From steering Swiss Re Casualty business on portfolio level to developing forecasting models for costing parameters to hands-on costing support – our work covers the entire range of renewing or acquiring new business in Casualty. 

 

We are a multi-national team of around 40 actuaries, underwriters, and data scientists with a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and professional experience operating out of China, India, Europe, and the United States. We are part of the P&C Reinsurance Business Unit, interacting closely with costing, underwriting and reserving teams. 

 

About You 

 

You are able to translate quantitative results into intuitive visualizations and figures to communicate and support the business message. Eager to interact directly with our stakeholders in costing, underwriting, and reserving, you help the team to ensure buy-in to our solutions and collect feedback for further developments and refinements. 

 

In addition to a solid actuarial or data-analytical analytical background, you can also demonstrate your ability to perform within a diverse team spread over multiple locations and different time-zones. Venturing out of your comfort zone you work with the team to share views, hypothesize and brainstorm solutions. Together, you then fully focus on execution. 

 

Your qualifications and interests: 

 

  • Actuarial or data-analytical background, able to demonstrate robust hands-on experience within the domain 
  • Interest in the casualty (re)insurance domain, possibly supported by actuarial studies 
  • Passion and curiosity to work in a diverse international environment with a wide cultural, geographical and time-zone spectrum 
  • Whilst not necessarily an experienced programmer, you are interested in hands-on quantitative analyses and possess solid analytical experience, eg, with Python or R 
  • Proactive and strong communicator in English, both written and oral, you articulate issues and their solutions in a clear, structured and concise manner 
  • With focus on getting things done, you are a team-player, bringing a deep appreciation and understanding of Swiss Re culture and values
