We have an exciting Analytics Engineer I opportunity available in our Analytics Center of Excellence (ACOE) – the power hub of analytics for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM)! 

About the Role

Responsible for building and maintenance of data environments by sourcing, integrating, and programming data that can be utilized to solve complex business cases for advanced analytics.  Provide assistance in framing out overall approach for data environment.

  • Design, develop, document and test advanced data systems that supports building of artificial intelligence/machine learning models.
  • Identify, integrate, and cleanse data source information for processing. Document and communicate opportunities for improvement identified in the data, such as scalability or quality concerns.
  • Provide thought leadership on a variety of initiatives including mentoring Data Engineers and interns and engage in reviewing code and other deliverables for additional projects.
  • Write and refine code to ensure performance and reliability of data extraction and programming, implement data structures using best practices for data modeling and visualizations, and produce comprehensive and usable dataset documentation and metadata.
  • Take part in training (online, classroom, webinars, etc.) to increase skill set and technical capabilities to better serve the needs of the business. Share training materials and communicate knowledge gained to other Data Engineering staff to maximize knowledge transfer.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required.
  • Three (3) years of data engineering and application design is required.
  • Experience in systems design and have a solid understanding of development, database development, testing, and integration methodologies is required.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of big data (i.e., Map/Reduce, YARN, HDFS, etc.), Databricks, query building (i.e., PL/SQL, HIVE, Impala, Spark, etc.), programming (i.e., R, Python, C, Java, Ruby, etc.) and visualization tools (i.e., QlikView, Tableau, Web FOCUS, etc.).
  • Broad level of understanding application architecture standards is required.
  • Experience designing, developing, and testing applications using proven or emerging technologies is required.
  • Previous experience working in the healthcare and/or consulting industry is preferred
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to present nuanced technical concepts to management at all levels of the organization is required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
