Data Analyst – Mid Market Portfolio Steering Team

Role Description

 

We currently have a great opportunity to work in our Mid-Market Portfolio Steering team as a Data Analyst, with a particular focus on Commercial Motor and Motor Trade.

 

The Mid-Market Portfolio Steering team sits within the Commercial Underwriting department and closely works with the Underwriting Account teams, Underwriting branches, Pricing, Data, Claims and Actuarial teams to provide recommendations and decisions to support the profitable management of the Mid-Market lines of business.

 

This role would be perfect for an ambitious data analyst looking to be more involved in strategic activities, gain exposure to senior stakeholders and looking to upskill your commercial insurance and underwriting knowledge whilst utilising your data and analysis skills.

 

You will contribute to the development, production and analysis of data, using appropriate data feeds to create actionable business insight to the Commercial Motor, and Motor Trade teams, in addition to working on cross LOB data projects to provide the greatest depth of analysis and insight in the reporting.

 

The key responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Owning the reporting and data analysis of the Commercial Motor and Motor Trade account, using this data to create actionable insight to provide to the account team to consider implementing into the account strategy
  • Collaborating with other analysts across the Mid-Market Portfolio Steering Team to deliver new projects in a data driven way.
  • Support the data teams in the production and creation of core data sets for new tooling and products, including liaising with the regions and account teams to understand emerging data needs
  • Taking proactive ownership of the analysis of data and provision of insight on current and emerging trends, both internal and external, that effect our insurance lines of business and results
  • Provide appropriate data production and reporting, ensuring the portfolio mix is aligned with strategy and ensuring appropriate balance of growth and ultimate profitability is realised, resulting in achievement of Corporate Plan objectives
  • Producing and presenting steering insights on a regular basis to underwriting teams, informing stakeholders how best to act on current trends affecting the portfolio
  • Grow an understanding of multiple commercial lines of business to be able to simplify reporting and cross pollinate ideas between account teams
  • Work alongside the pricing team to shape, develop and embed new and existing pricing methodologies into the portfolio rhythm

 

About You

 

  • A background in data analysis or management information reporting is essential 
  • A background in data analysis for a general insurance or Motor focused company is preferred, but not essential
  • Excellent knowledge of SAS Enterprise Guide or SQL
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Experience with visualisation tools such as MicroStrategy, Qlik Sense or Power BI
  • Ability to prepare reports with a high attention to detail
  • Makes consistently sound decisions in own area of expertise or responsibility and refers when appropriate
  • Able to use initiative and approach challenges innovatively
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to establish and maintain credible internal and external relationships with key stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness and knowledge of the UK Insurance market is preferred
  • Relevant data qualifications in e.g. SQL / SAS / Excel are preferred
