EquipmentShare is Hiring a Senior Data Engineer

EquipmentShare is searching for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team. This position is fully remote.

What You’ll Do as a Senior Data EngineerDespite having been fundamentally altered by earlier industrial revolutions, the construction industry has hardly budged with the computer revolution. In fact, since 1970, labor productivity in the US construction industry has actually declined, despite it more than doubling in the rest of the economy. This has contributed to housing shortages and the parlous state of infrastructure in some places, and is sanding the gears of carbon reduction efforts.

We think the industry is ripe for change, and we’re pushing the leading edge of that change with our next generation T3 Platform, the OS for Construction. Through T3, we help contractors to coordinate humans and (increasingly smarter) machines to build more effectively.

As a Senior Data Engineer in our small and quickly growing team, you will play a major role in this effort. In particular, you will:

  • Work closely with the data science / ML engineering and analytics teams to identify and establish an extensive yet cohesive set of metrics that quantify business performance in detail and which enable rigorous experimental design and analysis.
  • Establish and maintain sound ETL pipelines and clear table structures for these metrics.
  • Work closely with the rest of the Data Science & Analytics Platform team to ensure maintenance of industry best practices in terms of data access, security, traceability, etc
  • Work closely with the Data Science and Analytics teams to help identify business problems or management objectives that can be addressed through data analysis and data science, and help to recommend data-driven solutions to key stakeholders.
  • Help shape best practices within the team, along with mentoring and developing junior data engineers
  • In the process of doing all of the above, you will be expected to perform specific tasks that may include any of the following
  • Develop pipelines to clean and manipulate raw data using python.
  • Maintain documents, templates, dashboards and other reusable knowledge assets.
  • Disseminate information regarding the metrics, pipelines and tables.
  • Provide technical support for metrics, pipelines and tables.
  • Create or review technical design documentation to ensure the accurate development of reporting solutions.
  • Collaborate with system architects, software architects, design analysts, and others to understand business or industry requirements.
  • Develop data models for applications, metadata tables, views or related database structures.
  • Develop and document database architectures.
  • Document and communicate database schemas, using accepted notations.
  • Develop or maintain archived procedures, procedural codes, or queries for applications.
  • Provide technical support to junior staff and to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Identify and correct deviations from database development industry standards.
  • Generate standard or custom reports summarizing data availability, access patterns and gaps in business visibility for review by executives, managers, and other stakeholders
