Data Analyst, Full-time, Temporary

 

DESCRIPTION

The Canadian Press is looking for a Data Analyst for a 6-month contract to join our Content Operations team in our Toronto office. Reporting to the Associate Director, Content Operations, the core responsibilities of the position will center on developing analytical tools and processes to gain insight into our news content.

The hiring of this position is contingent on successful application for funding under the program to support women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). The eligibility criteria for funding include:

•         Female

•         30 years of age or under at the start date

•         a recent post-secondary graduate

•         be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada (applicants on work permits or student visas are ineligible)

•         not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits (you will have withdrawn from EI benefits prior to the start date)

 

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

As a content analyst you will apply your knowledge of data analysis and presentation to our newsroom output. You will work closely with all departments that touch content (news, IT, sales and marketing) and help CP to gain insight into our products and services.

As a content analyst with digital supply-chain experience, you will monitor production systems and content feeds to ensure efficient delivery to customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Ensure that the CP wire and digital feeds to all business partners for articles, images, audio, video, and other digital assets are working properly. Work with clients to optimize and troubleshoot content delivery as needed

·       Monitor and troubleshoot categorization and other metadata issues by running APIs and following content through the digital supply chain

·       Analyze how each of our products could take optimal advantage of metadata in consultation with stakeholders in the newsroom and on the sales and marketing team

·       Build and monitor dashboards related to content production and distribution

 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

·       Experience with data analysis and data-feed transformation

·       Proficiency in querying databases to retrieve and manipulate data

·       Python, Jupyter and other standard data analysis tools and frameworks

·       Proficiency in producing readable reports for a non-technical audience

·       Some knowledge of digital supply chains and data pipelines

·       Familiarity with json and XML

·       Familiarity with APIs and helper tools such as Postman

·       Excellent oral, and written communications skills

·       Knowledge of the news (or similar) industry a plus

·       Http programming experience

·       French language proficiency a plus
