Department Overview
Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.
Position Summary
The Operations Data Analyst extracts operations data for analysis, leadership support and responses to ad hoc data requests. The incumbent maintains operations tools & databases ensuring that it is kept up-to-date using data from various PG&E systems. They develop, maintain, and enhances operational metric database tools for the broader analytics team(s). The Analyst identifies and solves current gaps in data requirements and ease of access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries in support of operating reviews and monthly metrics reporting.
• PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Manages data management projects from initial request to presenting data results ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on-time.
• DATA PROCESSING: Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing.
• DATA EXTRACTS AND FILE TRANSFERS: Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts.
• DATA ANALYSIS: Analyzes data using various statistical tools to develop ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles.
• REPORTING: Develops and communicates clear, concise and actionable data analyses for clients (internal or external.)
Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory between Auburn and Oakland, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (Auburn and Oakland).
Position requires minimal travel.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $122,000
Bay Area Maximum: $194,000

California Minimum: $116,000
California Maximum: $184,000
Job Responsibilities
- Manages complex data analysis projects with limited supervision on only the most complex projects from initial request to presenting data results ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on-time.
- Manages metric reporting for Power Generation’s Safe Dam Operating Capacity (SDOC) STIP metric and supports Lean Operating goals for Power Generation’s senior leadership (Visual Management and Operating Reviews) annual plan and ad hoc requests.
- Designs data analysis to achieve business objectives, process data, analyze data, write clear and concise data findings and tailor communications to specific audiences. Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing.
- Manages very complex data extracts and list pulls ensuring data accuracy. Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts
- Analyzes data using various advanced statistical tools to develop complex ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles.
- Demonstrates and utilizes broad expertise in data processing and data analysis and applies this knowledge to a number of different issues.
- Provides new and innovative solutions and recommendations to enhance database(s) with new data sources and improved data processes.
- Develops comprehensive reports and communicates clear, concise and actionable data analyses for clients.
- Acts as team lead and provides direction to less experienced employees.
- Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelors Degree in Marketing or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- Job-related experience, 6 years
Desired:
- Masters Degree or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with utility operations
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Power BI (Microsoft Power Platform)
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA)
- Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects
- Strong knowledge of base-SAS and programming language such as Visual Basic, Perl, C
- Strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
