The Language Centre is seeking an Assistant Technical Officer to enhance operational efficiency and innovation. This role combines maintaining our robust IT infrastructure, supporting advanced technological solutions, and developing cutting-edge AI-driven tools, particularly focusing on Generative AI and Large Language Models to enhance language teaching.

Responsibilities:

• Generative AI and Large Language Models: Develop and maintain AI-driven projects involving Generative AI and Large Language Models to facilitate and innovate language learning processes;
• Software Development and Maintenance: Design, implement, and maintain custom software solutions and applications that support both administrative and educational functions of the Language Centre;
• Server and Data Management: Oversee server infrastructure, manage databases, ensure data security through regular backups, and optimise data handling and storage solutions;
• Hardware and Classroom Technology Maintenance: Provide frontline technical support for classroom technologies, including maintenance of computers, projectors, and other audio-visual equipment, ensuring all hardware is functional and up-to-date;
• Technical Support for E-Learning: Support e-learning initiatives by assisting with the setup and maintenance of virtual classrooms and multimedia productions, including audio and video editing;
• Equipment Inventory Management: Update and maintain inventory and loan records for all technical equipment and software, ensuring accuracy and readiness of resources;
• Training and Documentation: Conduct internal training sessions for staff on new technologies and software, and develop comprehensive guides and documentation for system use and troubleshooting;
• Collaborative IT Projects: Work closely with the Technical Officer and IT team to implement new technology solutions and improve existing systems within the Language Centre; and
• Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors and the Head of the Language Centre to support the overarching goals of the department.

Requirements:

Education

• A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

• Minimum one year of post-qualification experience, ideally with a focus on software development, AI technologies, or IT infrastructure management.

Technical Skills

• Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript, with a focus on AI and machine learning applications;
• Proficient in managing servers, databases, and network systems;
• Skilled in the maintenance and operation of audio-visual and computer hardware;
• Experience with digital media tools such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and audio/video editing software; and
• Familiarity with learning management systems like Moodle and hybrid teaching technologies.

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative spirit; and
• Good command in Chinese, English and Putonghua is required. 

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of 1-2 years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding. 

Reference salary range: $22,000 to $38,000

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
