Hybrid – 8 days a month in the office

The Principal AI Application Architect Leads the design and architecture for delivering on business objectives in the UpToDate product to responsibly integrate AI powered solutions. Drive the transformation of the UpToDate products to use the latest technologies in the ever-evolving AI landscape. Architect solutions in a manner that carefully considers the scalability, performance, resilience, availability, maintainability, security, deployment, testing, and monitoring needs. You Will report to the Director, Product Software Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect solutions in a manner that carefully considers the scalability, performance, resilience, availability, maintainability, security, deployment, testing, and monitoring needs.

  • Understand and implement the latest AI technologies partnering with fellow data scientists to create the responsible solution. 

  • Lead the design and architecture of the entire AI solution including the integration in our web/mobile applications, identifying opportunities to leverage AI (including Gen AI, RAG, etc.), and integration of AI in our analytics solutions.

  • Investigate, evaluate, and recommend technologies, tools, and frameworks that help accelerate delivery of our AI solutions. Create and implement proof-of-concept (POC) activities to guide technology decisions when appropriate. Balance upfront planning and encouraging latest designs while implementing projects in an Agile environment.

  • Experiment with different prompt structures and parameters to achieve desired results.

  • Iterate on prompts based on feedback and performance metrics.

  • Be a force that enables Development Teams to accelerate delivery, increase productivity, and become predictable without compromising quality. 

  • Must be highly engaged in all that is going on with the products allowing you to create designs with a holistic perspective of current uses/challenges and with the future needs in mind.

  • Serve the Development Teams as a trusted technical advisor, expert, and mentor. Remove technical impediments for the team.

  • Provide proactive technical guidance to Development Teams promoting the concepts of re-use, design for scale, stability, operational efficiency of solutions, and a learning culture.

  • Excellent collaborator with the ability to influence Architects, Development Team Members, and Product Management to ensure key technical concerns are considered and delivered at the appropriate times during an initiative.

  • Able to listen to Product Management to understand feature needs. Work with Product Owners and Engineers to understand product requirements and determine the most appropriate technical solution.

Experience:  

  •  Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or related field (or equivalent work experience)

  • 10+ years of development experience with experience at the Principal/Lead Engineer or Architect level.

  • Experience building customer-facing products. 

  • Experience building AI or ML solutions.

  • Expertise with Python libraries like Tensorflow/Theano/Keras, Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Seaborn, a plus.

  • Proficiency and hands-on experience in object-oriented programming with a full Java/JS stack.

  • Experience building DataOps/MLOps workflows, infrastructure and tooling.

  • Experience with CI/CD solutions in the context of MLOps and LLMOps including automation with Infrastructure as Code, a plus.

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Kafka, REST-ful design, a plus.

  • Experience with Agile engineering practices.

  • Knowledge of software development best practices, patterns, and principles.

  • Experience successfully delivering software engineering solutions.

  • Experience working on distributed teams.

  • Track record to bring complex engineering programs to completion on time and on budget.  

  • Demonstrated experience working with peers to make architectural transformations in an incremental fashion, while meeting business critical roadmap objectives.

  • Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners across technical and business teams. 

  • Help evaluate the short and long-term possible effects of technical choices concerning SDLC best practices, user functionality, application performance, and the potential accumulation of technical debt.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure, a plus.

Compensation:

Target salary range CA, CT, CO, HI, NY, WA: $176,600-$249,950


 

This role is eligible for Bonus.
