Senior Applied Scientist

As a Senior Applied Scientist in the Size and Fit organisation you will use our unique datasets to drive bold research experiments to provide 50+ million of Zalando customers with game-changing size and fit advice. We believe that using Deep Learning, Generative models and Computer Vision is the key to help our customers express their unique size and fit preferences. You will contribute to drive our scientific roadmap and apply your scientific capabilities, in collaboration with an exceptional multidisciplinary team, to develop cutting-edge machine learning products. WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

• Bring in your extensive scientific experience in researching, developing and deploying Deep Learning algorithmic based solutions to help customers make sense out of confusing sizing systems

• Propose, lead and build bold initiatives - feature ownership from development to deployment

• Contribute to our scientific endeavours through external publications in top-tier journals and conferences.

• Act as a mentor to junior scientists, foster collaboration with other teams, and actively share knowledge and expertise within Zalando’s science community.

• Forge close partnerships with applied science leaders and  product managers, and other business stakeholders to deliver state-of-the-art machine learning solutions to our customers and uncover new opportunities for growth.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF HAVE

• Ph.D or M.Sc. with equivalent experience in Deep Learning, Generative Models or Computer Vision and solid understanding of best practices.

• Experience in applying scientific methods to tackle research problems. A strong inclination to collaborate with product, science, and engineering managers and solve business problems through scientific solutions.

• Hands-on experience in deep learning with proficiency in Python and frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.

• Strong publication records at top-tier venues such as SIGIR, KDD, WWW, ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML, JMLR, etc.

• Strong knowledge of SQL

• Experience of building solutions in production together with engineers.

ABOUT SIZE & FIT

At Zalando, we deeply understand that Size Matters. We are excited to use our unique and large article and customer datasets to tackle this challenge using ML and Computer Vision techniques. How about you; would you like to bring in your skills to shape a great experience for your family and friends when buying clothes and shoes online?

You will join our multidisciplinary Zurich & Berlin-based Size and Fit Team, composed of machine learning / computer vision / deep learning researchers, software engineers, and full stack developers from 20+ different nationalities. We provide recommendations and predictions on customer size and fit choices and conduct focused experiments using emerging technologies to solve the challenges.

You will take on this complex and important topic working side by side with our Product Specialists and Applied Scientists. We have great problems to solve, a huge customer base to impact and are a team that loves to have fun. Size and Fit is a human topic. We use machines to help solve our customers’ challenges. But we never forget - size and fit success is defined by how customers feel when they wear fashion.
