What you will do

As a Data Modeler specializing in the payments space for issuer processors, you will be responsible for designing and implementing data models that support the processing of payment transactions, and card issuance, enhance client on-boarding process, management and processing of customer account data. Your role will involve collaborating with various stakeholders to understand business requirements, ensuring data integrity, optimizing performance, and facilitating data-driven decision-making processes. You will play a key role in shaping the data architecture that underpins the critical payment processing systems.
 

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Model Design and Implementation:

  • Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support different domains of payment processing system.

  • Ensure data models are optimized for performance, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Create data flow diagrams and entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs) to represent data structures and relationships.

2. Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with business analysts, software engineers, product, and other stakeholders to gather and analyze data requirements.

  • Translate business requirements into data models that support payment transactions, card issuance, and other related financial services.

3. Data Quality and Integrity:

  • Establish and enforce data modeling standards and best practices.

  • Work with data engineers to implement data validation and cleansing processes to ensure accuracy and integrity.

  • Work with data engineers to conduct regular data quality assessments and implement corrective actions as needed.

4. Performance Optimization

  • Work with data engineers/analysts to analyze and optimize database performance to handle high volumes of transactions efficiently.

  • Work with data engineers/analysts to implement indexing, partitioning, and other performance-enhancing techniques.

5. Documentation and Communication:

  • Document data models, data dictionaries, and metadata for transparency and ease of use.

  • Provide clear and concise communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding data architecture and design decisions related to data models.

6. Compliance and Security:

  • Ensure data models comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and security protocols.

7. Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data modeling, customer account management, and payment processing.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative solutions.

Qualifications and Tech Proficiency

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a Data Modeler in the payments industry, particularly with issuer processors.

  • Strong understanding of payment processing systems, customer account management, card issuance and other related financial services.

  • Proficiency in data modeling tools such as ERwin, PowerDesigner, or similar.

  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB).

  • Familiarity with data warehousing, ELT processes, and modern data architecture (Lakehouse).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and security standards in the financial industry.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data warehouse solutions such as Snowflake, Redshift etc.
