Job Location: Hybrid to Research Triangle Park, NC
Job Description
You will:
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary stakeholders and contribute to the development of code within the AGS team
- Build predictive machine learning/deep learning models for vegetable crops
- Query public and internal databases for modeling purposes
Accountabilities
- Calibrate and validate machine learning/deep learning models for vegetable crops
- Implement predictive machine learning/deep learning models to analyze and interpret data to improve Syngenta’s current predictive pipeline
- Maintain clear and comprehensive pipeline documentation to ensure code maintainability and knowledge transfer within the team
Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities
Critical Knowledge
- Currently enrolled in PhD or MSc programs (in a U.S. university) in Quantitative Genetics, Data Science, Statistical Genetics, or related field
- Computational skills and experience using programming languages and analytical toolkits
Critical Experience
- Advanced data fluency and excellent command of open-source programming languages (Python and/or R)
- Demonstrated skills in analysis and visualization of large, diverse and complex datasets
Desirable Experience
- Theoretical knowledge and practical experience with regression methods and machine learning/deep learning techniques and algorithms
- Experience of building predictive models using AWS SageMaker
- Fluency with query languages, data wrangling, determining best algorithms/model, accessing APIs and leveraging advanced data and analytical capabilities
Critical Technical, Professional and Personal Capabilities
- Strong communication skills, and ability to distill complex concepts and deliver clear messages to non-expert audience
- Demonstrated creativity in problem solving and ability to drive innovation
- Strong initiative and data oriented mindset
- Ability to collaborate effectively- learning from team and other scientists and sharing knowledge
