Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about statistical analysis and driving data-driven decision-making? Join Alberta’s Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) as a Statistical Analyst and make a direct impact on the economic and social insights that shape Alberta’s future.

About the Role
As a Statistical Analyst in Alberta’s Office of Statistics and Information (OSI), you will be at the forefront of analyzing data that informs key decisions across the province. Reporting to the Manager, Statistical Services, you will support the operations of the OSI through advanced statistical analysis, data manipulation, and modeling. By leveraging your expertise in software such as SAS, R, STATA, and Python, you will generate reliable and accurate statistical data that supports policy development, planning, and decision-making. Roles and Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility will be to conduct comprehensive research and statistical analysis, providing valuable insights for Ministry staff and decision-makers. You will analyze socio-economic data from sources like Statistics Canada and national databases, synthesizing it to inform program policy, design models, and measure the impact of policy changes. You will also work with colleagues across departments to ensure that data is effectively integrated into decision-making processes, and that performance indicators are established for accountability frameworks.

In addition to analysis, you will develop statistical reports and presentations that inform stakeholders about trends, policies, and program outcomes. You will prepare technical documentation, ensure data quality, and collaborate with other branches to define data quality standards and eliminate redundancies. Through stakeholder consultations, you will offer expert advice on appropriate research methodologies and support the government in building efficient, automated processes for data analysis. This role also involves preparing briefing notes for senior leadership, providing insights that influence policy direction, and assisting stakeholders in maximizing the value of socio-economic data.

What the Role Offers
This role provides a unique opportunity to be directly involved in shaping Alberta’s policy landscape through robust statistical analysis and research. You will have the chance to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government ministries and contractors, to ensure that statistical information is consistent and timely. You will gain exposure to the latest trends in statistical software, improving the efficiency of data analysis and enhancing your own technical and analytical skill set. As part of a supportive, research-driven team, you will also be contributing to a broader initiative aimed at making Alberta’s public policy more informed, transparent, and effective.
