The Economics and Fiscal Policy Division plays an integral role in the development of Alberta’s fiscal strategy. This position is in Alberta Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) branch, within the Economics and Fiscal Policy Division. The OSI’s mission is to provide high-quality, insightful and accessible data and analysis to support informed decisions about issues that matter to Albertans.

The Alberta Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) is a branch within the Economic and Fiscal Policy division in Treasury Board and Finance. The OSI is Alberta's statistical agency and the Statistical Focal Point for Statistics Canada.
Role Responsibilities
Are you a data guru with a passion for statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making? We are seeking a Methodologist to support the operations of the OSI by providing professional statistical services to the division and other ministries. This role is crucial in ensuring that the Government of Alberta is equipped to make decisions supported by robust methodological approaches and reliable statistical data. Key Responsibilities:
1. Research & Analysis: Developing, maintaining and evaluating models and selecting appropriate methodological approaches for large and complex analysis to support government decision-making and policy development.
2. Expertise & Consultation: Providing advice, expertise, and assistance in building GoA statistical capacity for evidence-based decision making on fiscal, environmental, and socio-economic issues.
3. Modernize & Enhance: Reviewing, updating, and improving statistical products, processes, and methodologies to address data gaps and leverage current technological and analytical best practices.
4. Technical Mentorship & Training: Providing technical guidance and training on best practices, techniques, software and methodologies for completing different types of statistical analysis and data development.
5. Communication & Support: Supporting other parts of OSI and its stakeholders to deliver on all mandated responsibilities, including preparing responses to Action and Information Requests, writing clear reports, tracking risks, collaborating on data management policies, and supporting statistical data requests.

Qualifications
University graduation is required in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics or closely related field plus at least four years of professional experience in methodology and model development; and some formal coursework in survey or research or analytical methodology and model building.
Masters degree is preferred.
The following are considered assets:
• In-depth knowledge in designing, planning and executing a variety of multi-stakeholder collaborative projects such as data development and management; survey, research, and analytical methodology; and modeling.
• Effectively advise clients on the design and methodology related to their projects or initiatives; foster collaborative relationship; and manage stakeholder expectations.
• Expert knowledge of techniques and software for theoretical and applied econometric/statistical models.
• Strong data management and analytical skills using advanced programming software such as SAS, R, Python, and STATA.
• Strong organizational and project management skills to optimize resources and effectively manage time
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong analytical and quantitative skills. The incumbent must be able to communicate highly technical issues in simple, straightforward language.

Notes
This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Currently, the Government of Alberta offers a hybrid work schedule that employees can choose to work from home for two days per week. Employees working from home must be working from an Alberta location. This position will be located in the Queen Elizabeth II (formerly Federal Building) in Edmonton.
Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.
Candidates may be asked to participate in a written assessment prior to the interview. The final candidate for this position will be asked to undergo pre-employment checks.
Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
