The Data Governance Specialist is responsible for implementing and improving Optus' data governance strategy, ensuring adherence with regulatory requirements, corporate policies, and industry benchmarks. This position entails providing guidance on best practices for data governance, overseeing implementation of data

management controls, and collaborating with key stakeholders from all business units to foster data stewardship and data quality Additionally, the Specialist will contribute to improving Responsible AI governance processes across the organisation.

  • Lead and provide data governance advisory services to business stakeholders across Optus.
  • Develop and maintain data governance frameworks, including data standards, guidelines and procedures in line with the new data governance operating model.
  • Conduct data and AI governance assessments and audits to ensure alignment to organisation data policies and standards, with the requirement to support and lead partners through a robust deviation process.
  • Advise and collaborate with business data stewards and experts with the aim to continuously uplift organisation data governance maturity, such as; data classifications, data glossary, data control implementations, data quality.
  • Design and deliver guidance and training to business units and technology teams on data governance industry standards.
  • Facilitate data governance working groups to ensure multi-functional alignment and decision-making.
  • Supervise and report on data governance metrics, risks, and issues, facilitating positive outcomes.

  • A curious and self-motivated person with a passion for challenging the status quo and driving positive change.
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and methodologies.
  • Experience with implementing data policies and standards and assessing business initiative alignment to these. Examples of data policies include data classification, data retention.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical data concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Extensive business and data analysis skills, including data classification, data manipulation, and problem-identification.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills with experience leading team engagements to understand strategic challenges and recommend effective data governance strategies.
