What is the position? 
Cognosante is seeking a skilled ETL Engineer with demonstrated Talend experience to join our dynamic data engineering team. In this role, you will work closely with data architects, data engineers, stakeholders, and other team members to design, develop, and maintain robust ETL processes ensuring the smooth transition of legacy supply chain data into new systems. Success in this position depends on your ability to effectively transform large, complex datasets while maintaining data quality and integrity standards.
 
What will I get to do?  

  • Collaborate with Product Owner, Data architect, database administrator and other stakeholders to understand data requirements, legacy systems, and data quality expectations.
  • Design scalable ETL workflows and pipelines using Talend to extract data from disparate VA supply chain systems, adhering to VA security and data governance standards.
  • Craft efficient data transformation and cleansing strategies to ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across platforms.
  • Develop and maintain data warehouses, data marts, or data lakes optimized for supply chain analytics and reporting.
  • Implement ETL processes within Talend, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of data flows.
  • Employ Talend's capabilities to build sophisticated data integration, transformation, and quality management solution.
  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, potential data integrity issues, and inconsistencies within ETL processes
  • Produce comprehensive documentation of ETL designs, data mappings, and implemented solutions to support knowledge transfer and maintenance.
  • Contribute and adhere to best practices in ETL development, data validation, and testing.

 
 
What qualifications do I need? 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another technical field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in ETL development with a demonstrable focus on Talend (Open Studio or other Talend products).
  • Advanced SQL skills with experience developing complex SQL queries and stored procedures, database concepts, and data warehousing principles
  • Strong understanding of data modeling and data integration techniques
  • Experience working with complex data sets and diverse data sources including legacy systems potentially found in the VA environment
  • Must be able to achieve a moderate (Tier 2) VA position of trust


 
What additional characteristics will help me thrive?  

  • 4+ years Python, R and SAS experience
  • Two (2) years’ experience using Perl Scripting, ability to write and reverse engineer scripts, to rewrite using SQL
  • Proven experience in architecting and working with AWS data services such as S3, EC2, Redshift, Glue, or similar cloud services.
  • Strong understanding of relational and non-relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DynamoDB) and data modeling concepts
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Experience with tools like Tableau, PowerBI
  • Active clearance for Public Trust Position

Compensation

$96,760.98 - $154,817.56

The pay range for this job is determined by various factors, including but not necessarily limited to location, responsibilities of the job, and alignment with market data. When determining a salary for this role, the following factors may be taken into consideration - contract-specific affordability, education, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. The estimate displayed represents the salary range for this position and is just one component of Cognosante’s total compensation package for employees. It is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee.
