The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                           

Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned. Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Ph.D. in Industrial/Systems, Electrical, Computer, or Biomedical Engineering or related disciplines

Certification and Licensing:

N/A

Experience:

Experience managing and performing analysis of healthcare data.

Experience with statistical analysis and machine learning (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, machine vision, and natural language processing), particularly in healthcare applications. 

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skilled in collecting, organizing, managing, and analyzing data.
  • Knowledge of experimental design methods.
  • Skilled in programming in Python, R, or MATLAB.
  • Ability to work independently and bring projects to completion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, including from other disciplines.
  • Ability to quickly learn application areas in the medical field.  
  • Ability to write high-quality manuscripts for publication and assist in grant proposal writing. 

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

All in-Person (no remote work is allowed)

- Managing and analyzing healthcare, especially surgical outcomes, data.

- Developing computer vision and machine learning models for processing videos for surgical education research. 

- Developing new models for other possible application areas, including physiology and operations engineering.  

- Performing literature reviews to quickly learn the state of the art in new areas.

- Providing progress reports and presenting results to the research team during regular meetings. 

- Writing manuscripts for publication in high-quality academic and medical journals.

- Assisting in the preparation of grant proposals and other funding applications.

- Presenting and promoting the team’s research at local and national seminars, symposiums, and conferences. 

- Mentoring undergraduate or graduate students in healthcare projects.

- Collaborating with a team of researchers and medical doctors to develop innovative solutions to healthcare challenges. 

- Traveling to different hospitals and medical centers in the local area for any hands-on project needs. 

- Keeping abreast of the latest developments in healthcare analytics. 

- Contributing to the overall research and development goals of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the College of Engineering.
