We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to join the Reagent Bioinformatics team in Roche Diagnostics Solutions to develop machine learning (ML) models for computational protein engineering. The successful candidate will collaborate with data scientists, bioinformaticians, protein engineers, and molecular biologists to create and continuously improve proteins and enzymes critical to our portfolio of reagents, assays, and instruments.
The Opportunity
Develop ML models to design and optimize proteins to achieve R&D project goals in cross-functional teams
Benchmark the performance of deep learning models (e.g., language models, graph neural networks, diffusion models) across varied projects and datasets
Streamline data preparation and the deployment, training and/or fine-tuning of ML models
Keep abreast of the latest developments in machine learning and integrate these methods into existing workflows, when appropriate
Present and communicate project updates to diverse teams in the organization
Who you are
You bring a minimum, 3 or more year’s of experience with a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in fields such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, or related disciplines.
Excellent programming skills in Python, proficiency with machine learning libraries like PyTorch and TensorFlow, and experience with version control systems such as Git.
Demonstrated experience applying and training deep learning models to solve biological problems, with an emphasis on machine learning-based protein engineering.
Experience in high-performance computing environments, particularly with distributed model training, and developing shared codebases.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and adapt communication for varied technical audiences.
