Team Description: Kitware's Medical Computing team solves complex healthcare challenges through customized software solutions. The team provides research, development, and technology integration services to research centers, universities, and companies in the medical and biomedical sectors. By joining our team you will participate in a dynamic multidisciplinary work environment with exceptionally talented computer scientists, software engineers, mechanical engineers, and biomedical engineers.
About the Projects: At Kitware, we work with a variety of healthcare datasets, including clinical data (EHR, medical imaging, laboratory results, medication records, vital signs, clinical notes ), patient-generated health data (wearable device and remote patient monitoring) and research data (clinical trial and biobank data). The projects involve data management, exploration, and the integration of these multimodal data to derive actionable insights and improve patient outcomes. Our research projects involve collaborations with top research institutions, including Harvard Medical School, MIT, Cleveland Clinic, Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and others, and build on open-source platforms.
About the Internship:The planned duration of this full-time internship is 6 months, starting on or before January 2025.
Interns who join our team collaborate with world-class coworkers and external researchers in the following ways:- Developing predictive models to assess patient risk and outcomes- Integrating and preprocessing large, heterogeneous datasets (e.g., EHRs, medical imaging, and patient histories) to feed into machine learning models- Applying machine learning and statistical methods to generate predictive insights, visualize patterns, and validate the accuracy of predictions- Interns will be encouraged to publish the results of their work in academic papers submitted to premier conferences or journals- Interns will also be able to produce high-quality software for challenging image analysis problems and contribute to large-scale software infrastructure and open source projects

Required Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in computer science or a related field with the corresponding emphasis on scientific computing, machine learning
- Proficiency in Python
- Familiarity with high-quality software processes, such as unit and integration testing, revision control (Git), documentation, software review, and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD)
- Hands-on experience with data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques
