Software Engineer

The Bing Places Data team is looking for a software engineer to help us deliver the best possible Bing location search experience for the United States and other global markets. 

Specifically, the scope of this position includes building pipelines and tools to collect and process Local business data from various sources; designing and implementing metrics and measurement pipeline that provide insights on data quality; and experimenting with various data collecting and processing strategies including web mining, crowd sourcing, and AI to achieve best data quality. 

This position will allow you to learn more about how Search works and understand Maps & Bing’s technology stack end-to-end.  You will develop deep expertise in web-scale distributed processing, machine learning, data analytics and big data, and you will have the opportunity to partner with multiple engineering and research teams to leverage the latest Microsoft and industry research.

Responsibilities

• Design, coding, and shipping of high quality products and services
• Work with program & product management to contribute to product roadmaps and new service definitions
• Own a set of services & tools and support customers with new feature requests and operational issues
• Drive a high quality bar in terms of code quality, test driven development, daily builds and automated runtime monitoring & alerts

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

• Proven experience with at least one of: large-scale web services, big data processing, statistical analysis, or web search.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• Background in machine learning, data mining, web mining, statistics, business intelligence/customer intelligence, user modeling, information retrieval.
• Bias for action and track record of delivering results while dealing with ambiguity.
